Freshman Seminar Fall 17 DFB

Majors and Minors Fair

I was unsure about what major and minor I should do so I went to the Majors and Minors fair on November 9th. There were many tables representing majors and Minors. I went to the Marketing table to see what kinds of Marketing there were. I took the Digital Marketing Sheeting and the representative of that table explained what kinds of skills I would learn. Then she handed me the Analytical Marketing sheet telling me that I should consider it to. I went to the arts table next to see what minors I should consider. The representative of that table of very nice and she explained what credits I would need for each one. I took the graphic design and visual arts sheets. I considered them because both would help with my Marketing major. I went around more and listed to the representatives of the Management table and Communications table. I was able to really see what majors I could consider.

Academics- Library

I go to the library a couple times a week. It might be for printing, finishing up an assignment, or studying. There is a small chatter in the front where people ask for help. However in the back it is quiet. I never been to a library where everyone respects the silence. It is quite nice and peaceful. The back desks are also something I do not see it often. There are barriers on each side so I could have some privacy. A small light is installed so I could see my work clearly. It was a bit luxurious for me because I have never been to a library like Baruch’s. The printing process was a bit hard to get used to. However one I got it it was fine. The 500 free prints are great. I borrowed a ebook textbook, however my professor had a no electronics policy so whenever we had to brink the book the class I would print out the pages in the library. The library is a great resource for studying and getting your materials.

Latinx Heritage event

Going to the Latinx Heritage event was definitely a memorable experience. I did not know what to expect; it was my first Baruch College event. I arrived at the second floor a little after it started and saw people playing games. Everyone was laughing and clapping. Once in a while, there would be cheers because someone was doing well in the game. After a game would finish, the hosts of the event would encourage the surrounding audience to participate and pulled them to a line. I did not participate however I was able to laugh and cheer along with my friends. The announcer would say two different words; one means right and the other means left. The participants jump either left or right depending on what the announcer says. If they jump incorrectly, they are out of the game. The announcer would try to mess up the participants by jumping too. The last one standing wins a prize. I came in an hour after the event started because I didn’t have classes that day. However, I was able to quickly jump into the mood and enjoy the music and games. I was even able to make a couple of new friends who were also there for the blog from other freshman seminar classes. We all snapped pictures and went to grab food afterward. This event celebrated Latinx culture and brought people together. This is especially true as I had made friends with people I might have not met if not for this event. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and I hope to go to more school events.
