Majors and Minors Fair

Today, I went to the Majors and Minors fair to see what kind of opportunities Baruch has to offer. I am tied between  Accounting and Finance. I favor towards becoming a Finance major, but I think there will be more opportunities as an Accountant. By working hard, I can become known in the Accounting field. However in Finance, one must already have connections.

This event has caused me to think about my minor in addition to my major. I really want to major in French, but I am having second doubts because I don’t know if I will actually become fluent in French. Perhaps I could double minor, but I don’t know if it’s actually possible for me to do so. Overall, I am glad I attended this event because I am getting more and more familiar with the system. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. The Met/Academics

On September 28, 2017, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with my Art History class. I was able to see the art that we were studying in person. This was my third time at this museum, and for the first time I felt as though I understood more of my surroundings in the museum.

Currently in my Art History class, we are studying about Ancient Egypt and Greece. When I saw the Egyptian pyramid right in front of me, I realized that it’s truly amazing what the Met has to offer. Most of the hieroglyphics inscribed on the pyramid were very legible and neat. This pyramid showed the order of the Egyptian culture.

Other than that, the Greek art consisted mostly of vases and decorations. In addition, my class also went to the contemporary section of the museum. Contemporary art will be the next subject that we will learn in class. Overall, I enjoyed this experience very much, and I am excited to continue learning in Art History.

FES/Student Life – Julia Hrynkiw

On September 7, 2017, I went to the General Interest Meeting for the Finance & Economics Society. This meeting was only about two hours long, but it felt like an hour. In high school, I did not have the option to join any business clubs because I went to a small school. Now, I am glad that Baruch has plenty of opportunities at the tip of my fingers.

I expected the first meeting to be sort of tiring and informational. However, as soon as I walked in, I saw a cheesy pizza pie right before my eyes. At that moment, I knew I did not regret signing up for this club. While I was eating my pizza, I did learn the advantages that this club had to offer. The Finance & Economics Society often invites large corporations and firms to Baruch for networking events for all club members. In addition, this organization has a Mentorship program that meets twice a week. I plan on applying for the program. Currently, all I can do is hope to get an interview. After the explanation about the purpose of FES, we were placed into groups of ten for a team building exercise. To sum it up, I guarantee to come back into room 11-120 every Thursday.
