Baruch Voices!

For this blog post, I will share about my experience at Baruch Voices. I was very eager to hear everyone’s monologues, especially our very own Patrick’s. As people were presenting their monologues, I was impressed by the lack of apprehension they displayed. Everyone seemed very confident, and rightfully so. All the monologues were wonderful. They ranged from funny, to eye opening and self empowering. One of my favorites was by a girl who wrote about the way people undermined her academic abilities because of the color of her skin and the way she dresses. She did a spectacular job proving them wrong and made clear that we should not draw conclusions about others based on stereotypical views. Another monologue that stood out to me was by a boy who wrote about the obstacles he faced throughout his life but in the end, revealed it all to be a lie. The ending was shocking in a funny way because he made all the obstacles seem very believable. He did a great job of twisting our emotions. I enjoyed my time at Baruch Voices and I admire the fact that Baruch gave us freshmens the opportunity to share something personal about ourselves.
