On November 16th, four of my friends and I visited the MET. Although I have visited this museum before it seems that you learn something new every time you visit. We visited numerous exhibits such as the Roman, Greek, Egyptian, American, and the Mid evil times Exhibit as well. I found that learning about the history of civilizations and cultures from all over the world was very interesting, especially because I was able to compare all the similarities and differences from my own culture. Visiting the museum with my friends also was a great experience because we got to experience new things as a group and provided each other with new information. It was a great decision to visit the MET because of its beautiful architecture and exhibits. My favorite exhibit was Ancient Greek because I had always been interested in Greek mythology as a child. I found it extremely intriguing to actually see artifacts from a country I had a deep interest in. Although I’ve seen this exhibit before, visiting it again as a young man enabled me to appreciate the history more and connect mythology to the culture of the ancient Greeks. However, I would’ve also liked to see more exhibits from different countries which means I will defiantly making another trip to the MET. All in all, my friends and I had a wonderful time and I’m sure each of us took home one fact we found extremely interesting, especially because Veton is a walking history textbook.

My friends and I attended an internship convention on Thursday, October 5th. The goal of this convention was to inform students about different opportunities available to them, how to go about attaining them, and to be knowledgeable enough to not be taken advantage of. For example, the instructor made it clear to us that the company can be sued for making an intern do any jobs to related to the field they are studying, like buying coffee or dropping off dry-cleaning. The instructor was very accommodating and didn’t follow a strict schedule, and he allowed questions throughout the program. A lot of the kids that attended this seminar were Freshman’s although there was a mixed crowd, I believe this was a good thing because it informed us about something we will have to face in the future and helped us prepare for it. I am sure that every student that attended left with a piece of information that will make a big difference for them. For example, knowing where to look for internships, bringing awareness to how you should be treated, how to apply for internships, recognizing which ones will look better on your resume, and how to even create a resume. I believe finding the best internship for your career and that will look good on my resume was the most important point for me. Knowing that our school hosts meeting like this is also helpful because a lot of students are lost and confused on how to go about doing a lot of the things necessary for their future advancement including myself. For that reason I found this meeting to be very informative and I would encourage others to attend future meetings.
African Student Association
On Tuesday, my two friends and I attended a meeting with the African Student Association. Although none of us were from African decent the group was very welcoming. At the meeting we discussed different types of fundraising activities that can be done throughout the year and the upcoming bake sale that will take place. The group members discussed who will bring what baked goods and encouraged us to come and bring more friends to support them. I believe the students in this club made us feel as if we were a part of there organization by including us in there discussion, on what kind of events should be held.
