Before I went to get my resume and cover page reviewed I thought that they were solid. To my surprise the first thing that I learned is that while my resume was pretty good but that there was still room for improvement. I had no idea what more I could improve when the reviewer told me that I could build on it. At most I thought that maybe my resume had small formatting mistakes and that my cover page was too short. However, my formatting needed more work, I didn’t put experience, community service and education in the correct order. After going over my resume and writing down revisions that I should make, we moved on to my cover page which I thought was what i needed the most work on, but apparently it was good and didn’t really need any work, just that I should change it up based on the job that I apply to. I really liked that the review only took 20 minutes and that it was really informative giving good constructive criticism and the means to improve my resume and cover page. I’ll be going back again at a later date to get my new and improved resume reviewed. Right now I feel that my resume while good in terms of format is short but I hope to be adding to it over the next few years.

My Trip to The MET
In my eighteen years of living in New York City, the MET has been the museum that I have visited the most. In Middle School, school trips to the MET would common and I probably went three to four times a school year. Back then I was a child and didn’t really understand how I would benefit from a museum, and since Middle School I haven’t visited the MET more than once compared to the ten or so times I visited in a span of three years. The one time I did visit was during my sophomore year in High School, and not because I wanted to but because I had family over that wanted to and I was essentially forced to go. But I actually enjoyed it a bit that time, not like all the other times in Middle School. I always thought that I had seen it all and that’s why I found the MET boring but I was only using that as an excuse, which is why I chose and wanted to go to the MET this Thursday for this blog.
I went with my friend Rafal, who at first didn’t believe me that the admission tickets to get in were a penny because they were donation based. So he ended up paying a dollar for the ticket, but a dollar is still so little when compared to what the MET offers. As an extremely vast place we weren’t able to explore all of it, or most of it since we still had to get to get to English class later. But just the amount of sculptures that we first say upon entering was amazing. Many were broken, probably through wear and tear over hundreds and thousands of years which was crazy to imagine that I was staring at something created thousands of years ago. I consider myself to be a bit of a History buff, buff the art area of history was never really something I enjoyed, however going to the MET and reading about different sculptures and paintings was a lot of information. Especially the sculptures we saw at the start, many seemed and actually were from the Ancient Greek and Romand times, but while that was my guess you could have just as easily read about them and found an accurate date of when they were created. Now I know that a museum is another way to learn about history other than history class.
Joining Toastmasters
Throughout the application process, the orientation, convocation day, and Freshmen seminar class it was shown that Baruch College prides itself for all the different clubs it has and the diversity not only in the students but the clubs as well. With all of that said and done I felt that it was still hard to find a club that I was willing to dedicate time in to. There are definitely many clubs that I have no interest in at all and many clubs that I have interest in or would like to become passionate about. The problem being was my time, and while later on this semester or the next I will definitely be joining another club or two, choosing the first club that I would join fell to a small list. It should be obvious which club I ended up joining by the title of this post and the decision to join Toastmasters was somewhat influenced by my two friends wanting to join as well. However I feel like Toastmasters is a perfect opportunity to practice my public speaking a skill that I am sure will come in very handy not only in college but in the real world after college. I consider myself an okay public speaker I still get shaky hands and a bit nervous sometimes when going up to present in a class setting and I definitely get nervous when presenting or talking to a large group of people. The most people I have gone up in front of was probably around sixty to seventy people but the usual amount in high school was twenty to thirty-five people. Coming from a small high school I also knew all the people in the class that I was presenting in so there wasn’t as much pressure. While in Baruch I don’t know most of the people here and probably won’t just because of the sheer size of this school and the amount of people that attend. I’m excited for what will come next and for what I will learn and improve upon. When I signed up for Toastmasters today I met the president of the club, Mike, he explained how the club operates, when the meetings take place, and some of the events that they have. Public speaking may not one of my strengths but I will put the time and effort into it to make it one.
