Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC05

BLOG POST #3

So when it comes to “career,” I feel like I’m completely lost. I don’t have a great idea of what I want to be in a couple of years. I don’t have a resume, nor do I really have any internship experience. So that means I have a LOT of work to do in the next few years. What I can do for a start is sign up for STARR and set up an appointment for a meeting, which I have done already. I’m probably going to ask about how to start up myself and make it easier for myself to make money in the future. To be honest, its actually pretty scary and frightening to think about as of right now, but similar to a project or a test, it will come up and I’d have to deal with it sooner or later

Another thing I’d like to talk about is how horrible the class selection system is for a freshman. Seeing my classmates get nice classes, while I two days later, pick from the scraps, I don’t think it’s really fair. There’s nothing I can do but to accept it and just stay optimistic. Hey, if the classes are crazy hard, I guess I would be used to it by the time everyone has hard classes. I’d be more prepared for those hard classes. If my GPA is in danger, I’ll just work harder and probably get rid of my social life and focus on school. Anything it takes right?

Blog post #2, Game room visit

Being that our college is Baruch, and we didn’t have much to do during our break, Eli, Isaac and I visited the game room. I was not completely thrilled with the game room, knowing that other colleges, such as Lehigh has an ACTUAL game room. I figured that it would do because of the three main things they had in there: foosball, ping pong, and pool. The room was very small, but the people in there were pretty alive and cool. The music was not good, but the room was clean and somewhat decorated. Since I went with Eli and Isaac, I mainly talked with them, but I also met some other people that were enjoying themselves. To be honest, I actually enjoyed the experience a bit because of the atmosphere that I exposed myself to. It felt like the college experience that I should be getting.

So what happened was that I was playing against Isaac in pool, which was really hard to get a spot in, but we managed. And we ended up having lots of fun. I then played Eli, and unfortunately lost, but I really liked the experience. After playing pool, we went on to play foosball, which was also tons of fun. Baruch may not have the lit stuff, but with friends and a small and cozy room such as the game room, we can make it lit. Overall, this was a great way to get involved in student life, and next time, I won’t hesitate to join a club, or come have fun in the game room with my friends, or just with total strangers. I feel that because of places and events like these, my life here won’t be as boring. To meet new people will help me get comfortable in this school.

Blog Post #1 – @E-sports Association

Last Thursday, my friends and I happened to stumble upon the meeting of the E-sports Association during the break, which turn out to be a great experience. With me having a love for sports and competition in general, I slipped into this club with ease. Personally, I do carry an interest for E-sports (electronic-sports), which is currently growing in popularity very rapidly. Aside from playing games on occasion, I also have friends that have grown to be fond of gaming, which has made it one of my underlying hobbies. During the meeting, I was pretty excited to interact with people outside of my classes, since it’s not the easiest thing to do in this school. Something that hit me right away was how welcomed I felt as a new member. Another thing that I really liked about this club is how easily it brings people with similar interests together. The ice breakers that they had us do weren’t the most fun, but they did make us feel more comfortable there. Everything that we did made it easier for social interaction. Because of that, during my time at the meeting, I met a couple of new people, all of whom I look forward to seeing again. Something I LOVED about the meeting was the fact that there was pizza, which was extremely important. I could’ve starved in that meeting! All jokes aside, however, the event was great, in that the atmosphere was gentle and smooth, and I feel that this is a great start to the college experience that I should be getting. Prior to actually partaking in a meeting, I was really reluctant, and had zero interest in doing something like that, but I can really feel this being a great first step in enjoying college the right way!
