On Thursday, November 16th, 2017, I went to the Starr Career Center to fulfill my last blog post. I mainly went to look at some internship opportunities that they might have, and because I didn’t really know where else to go to do this blog post. When I went to the career center, I wasn’t really sure exactly what to do or where to go. I was informed that they had internship opportunities for different companies, both big and small. Going in, I had this blog post in mind when trying to inquire about their opportunities for internships. I figured that they would have a few since the whole idea of the career center is to work on jobs and your career path. I visited for internships in particular because I knew that they are good for many reasons, such as to build a better resume, develop networking with outside people and companies, increased opportunities for employment with that same company after graduation, and overall just to gain experience and get your name out there. The career center let me know that I could check for more internship opportunities on starr search’s website, attend internship and career fairs and seminars, and to network with professionals and professors that have some experience in specific fields. I’ve been thinking recently about doing an internship later in my college career, possibly with some sort of financial or business related company. In doing so, I would like to get some experience in the field and to possibly get a good job at the same place. Using this experience could help me to get further in life and make more money. Going to the starr career center more in the future could help me get these internships in order to get more experience for a good job.

On Friday, October 13th, 2017, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for my history class. My history teacher, Anna Boozer, told us to meet in the lobby by three fifteen. I took the four train from Bowling Green in Manhattan to get there. However, when I first got on the subway, I accidentally took the four going the other way, the one that was Brooklyn bound. I didn’t even realize it until I heard “the next stop is Borough Hall” over the loud speaker. I thought to myself “isn’t Borough Hall in Brooklyn?” and quickly got off there. When I got off, I had to look for the Manhattan/Bronx bound train. Finally, after the subway ride, I arrived at the Met. Anyways, when most of us got there, my teacher was still giving a tour to a different group before ours. Those of us that were there just stood around in the lobby waiting for our teacher to finish that tour. When her tour was over, she met up with us in the lobby. She gave us a makeshift attendance sheet to sign. After more people showed up, we started our class tour. We visited the ancient Egypt exhibit, and it was pretty interesting. We saw different primary sources and artifacts that included statues, tombs, and other pieces of construction with hieroglyphics on them. Our teacher led us through many rooms, explaining what different things were along the way. After seeing all the artifacts from various pharaohs, she led us into a huge room that had a big tomb in the center and had flowing water on one side. She told us that you can actually rent that room out but it would be very expensive. Finally, she said that we could stay and see other exhibits or we could just leave.

On Thursday, September 7th, 2017, I attended the latinx Family Feud event in the Multipurpose room at 6 pm. Some of the reasons why I attended this event was because family feud is one of my favorite game shows on tv, and I wanted to learn a little more about latinx heritage and culture. Also, I wanted to go for the pizza that was given out, which tasted pretty good.
The family feud event was pretty fun in general. Different clubs and organizations competed as different “families” on a few aspects of latinx and Hispanic culture. To be honest, a bunch of the questions didn’t really have much to do with latinx culture (one of the questions asked what people are scared of the most). Other than that, I had fun watching the teams go head to head tournament style to see who would come out on top. I’m not actually even Hispanic, but I thought that going there would be fun for everyone anyways.
I went to this event with a couple of my friends, both of whom are Hispanic. One of them is Mexican, and the other is Ecuadorian. It was actually kind of funny how my Ecuadorian friend didn’t root for Ecuadorian club to win because he knew that they wouldn’t do well. My Mexican friend knew most of the answers that had to do with latinx culture, and I knew some of them as well. All three of us ate a lot of food at the event, probably around ten slices of pizza combined. Great food combined with a great game show made for a really nice and fun night.
Not only was there pizza, there was CAKE. There was a huge cake that everyone got a piece of after the game was over, and it wasn’t just for the winners which I thought it was for. They all gave out pieces of cake and I had to take a big piece. I don’t exactly remember the flavor, but the cake was really good. I remember how one of my friends was trying to be funny by eating his piece with a knife. Not only was the family feud game show itself really fun to watch, the food was great, and the dessert was fantastic as well. I was actually kind of expecting them to give out food from different Hispanic countries, but I was proved wrong when I looked to the back of the room and I saw a bunch of pizza boxes that were stacked.
Overall, I felt that this latinx family feud event was a very fun event that brought people of different cultures together. Although people from different organizations, clubs, and cultures competed against each other, it also kind of brought them closer together because it was only friendly competition. It was cool to see how each team did against each other and which teams knew more about latinx and Hispanic culture and heritage. If they host this event next year, I would love to go again.
