The day of the loft party I was debating on whether to go or not. In the end we all ended up going for the free food and for the sake of this blog post. Our last class of the day ended about 2 two hours before the loft part was to start so we all headed to the library to get some work done. By we I mean Sadia, Alicia, and I. We met up with Alicia’s friend Josslyn and headed to the library, I did my english homework to pass the time until it was time for the party. Fifteen minutes before six the four of us headed to the forming line into the loft part where we met up with Michelle and her friend Sarah.
As we were heading inside we were served the free food. We got these adorable mini burgers from Bare Burger, french fries, dipping sauce and a soft drink of choice. We got inside and I, being the mess I am, bumped into someone and spilled some of my soda on my shirt. It was not that bad so I just hid it with my hair and it dried, since it was a tiny spill. We squeezed ourselves into this tiny, already occupied, table (with permission, of course) to finish our food.
The music was pretty loud inside and they were playing some throwback songs that people were getting really into. Nostalgia will always get people these days. The loft party was at the same room Freshman Orientation was in, but the room felt smaller that day with the dancing crowd and the giant games. They had cute fairy lights hung up, too. After we finished eating we took a group selfie, that I linked above these paragraphs. From left to right, the picture was of Josslyn, Alicia, Michelle, Sadia, Sarah (behind Sadia), and little me. Alicia said we all look like babies in the picture and I couldn’t help but agree.
The rest of the night we participated in the games that were provided, danced, socialized with new people, and just had an overall good time. I was excited to play giant jenga because I was obsessed with jenga and I had always wanted to play giant jenga. There was also giant chess and connect four. I met some new people, friends of friends and so on. We all danced to some 90s and 00s music and just had a good time. I could not stay the whole time, however. My mother wanted me home that day because it was my birthday and I wanted to spend time with my family since I was in Baruch pretty much all day. The loft party was fun as it was a good way to meet some new people in my first year of college and have fun at the same time. It allowed me to release some pressure and pent up tensions I was feeling from being introduced to this new environment of schooling and higher education. It all felt daunting at first but I am definitely more situated now and excited to start this new chapter in my life.
