For my third blog post I chose to go to the STARR career development center for a resume review. I thought this would be good because I also had to get my resume reviewed for a women in business induction requirement. I thought it would be good to take care of both tasks in one trip. I had been wanting to get my resume reviewed for a while but I never had the time to go. I had been involved in BSA as well, so I had been spending a lot of time prepping for the mock wedding. I was practicing my dancing because I was in some of the dance performances and other actives. So after the wedding last night I finally had some time. Today I was really happy because I finally had my resume printed and I was ready to go. I went to the office and signed up for an appointed. After about ten minutes of waiting I was able to go in and meet with a counselor, her name was Melissa. She was really nice and helped me a lot with my resume. We went through each portion of my resume and she told me whatever I needed to change about it and what I could improve. She also helped with my word choice and formatting. The formatting was really a lot of help because I had so much to write, it wasn’t fitting properly so I learned I could edit the margins, which was amazing. She also showed me a ton of example resume which I could use to help me work on my own. I was really glad that I went because I really did learn a lot from her. She told me about how she formatted her own resume and how good it looked. After we were done she made a copy of my resume and her edits and I was able to leave. After leaving I was really excited to start making all her edits to my resume!

Academic Blog Post for 10/30 – Sadia Huque
For this blog I chose to do it about my study group appointment at SACC. In our precalculus class, we were having an upcoming midterm, so Dan, Abdul and I decided to go for a study session for all our lingering questions. I had done the practice test before, and I felt pretty confident in my answers and work, but I was a bit unsure on a few. It was my first time going to a study group session, so I was excited and a bit nervous as to how it would go. When I got to the SACC, I realized that I didn’t sign up correctly so I had to resign up for my study session, once I was done I joined Dan and our tutor Selena. We worked on all the problems and went over everything to make sure it was all correct and done well. I ended up noticing that I had made some error so I was glad that I had gone in. I also learned how to use my calculator properly. I went over all the steps and wrote everything down so that I could remember. We had a nice time, event though we were doing math. We eventually realized that our professor had not posted the answers to our practice test, so we really couldn’t check our work over and know if we did it properly. That was a bit annoying to realize since the test was coming up the next day. I was really happy that I learned how to use my calculator. It was a bit annoying doing everything by hand and now knowing how to do everything. I also learned a bunch of short cuts for the calculator questions on our practice test which sped me up a lot. I hope this study group knowledge can help me do as well as I want to do on my test.
STARR Career Fair – Jeramia James
While I was sitting on my bed the night before staring at my resume, I was wondering if this would be enough to impress the employers at the career fair. I tweaked my resume to its best and started to think of things to say to the employers. However, when it came time to go to the career fair, I’ve realized something, I might be the youngest one there. At the career fair, I was shocked to see a line that stretched down two floors from the main floor. It was at this moment that I realized that ids that go to Baruch care about their future careers. I also realized that getting a job will be very competitive seeing as how so many people attend these fairs to get an internship or a job. The career fair really helped me to understand and taught me to understand what I have to do when I am a junior and start looking for internships and jobs. I have learned how to introduce myself to the employers to present the best part of me. I talked to many employers ranging from the CIA to Bloomberg. From all these companies, I learned that accounting and finance play a major role in all of them. The first group of people I talked to was the CIA. I learned that CIA offers many jobs with a major in accounting. The internships are offered in the summer and require the student to relocate to Washington DC for the period of the internship. The same was said by the FBI, except the internship could be taken in their field offices like the one in New York City. For the FBI, I was mainly informed by a current intern that was being given a part time job, while still a sophomore. The MTA also offers internships for accounting majors. Rana Constant, who was the person I talked to, told me that people who worked in the MTA with accounting degrees turned out to be successful, mainly because other employers love to hire employers who worked for the MTA. The most interesting employer I talked to that day would be US Customs and Border Patrol agents. I was really surprised to see an employer who seems like they only hire agents for the field, hire many people with majors in accounting and finance. I learned that it was accountants in the department itself that handle all the money. It doesn’t get contracted to any company and the department does it themselves. I also talked to other companies that day like Bloomberg LP and Citi Bank. I wasn’t too surprised to see they business majors and I pretty much knew what to expect from these two companies. This is what I learned from my time at the career fair. For the time I was there, about two and half hours, I was able to learn so much more about the hiring process. I also learned that accounting existed in so many different companies including the FBI and CIA.

Student Life Blog Post
For my first blog post, I chose to use a photo from the USG welcome week party. I chose to go to this event really because I wanted to see what it would be like. I had never been to a Baruch party before so this was my first try. I wanted to go with friends so that I wouldn’t be lonely. While chatting with friends over lunch, we decided to go to the party together! Since it was a Thursday night, it was our last day of classes for the week, we had a pile of homework to do. After classes we went to the library to work on homework. Since I was going to have a really busy weekend, I wanted to finish as much homework as I could. At around six o’clock, we decided to leave the library and walk to the Newman Vertical Campus. After waiting and chatting on line to enter, we got on line for burgers and soda since we were all famished. When we walked in holding our plates and cups, we weren’t sure where to go, or much of the people in the room. We were standing by the bar stools and ate our burgers and sipped our sodas while somehow chatting over the blasting music. It was so loud, we could barely hear the people that were standing next to each other. The burgers were pretty small so it didn’t take us long to finish them. Once we were done, we met different people that were there and started chatting with people. We got to take a selfie before it got too dark in the room. Throughout the night I was meeting new people and making new friends throughout the night. I ended up reconnecting with a girl from my middle school. We recognized each other but had never really spoken before, but when we met each other, we seemed very familiar. Then as we spoke we realized we had tons of mutual friends and interests. Its funny because ever since that night, she and I talk so much too! We talk about homework and our weekends, and even just what happens in our daily lives. As we became more comfortable throughout the night, my friends and I eventually started dancing and jumping around. It was really fun, after about an hour of dancing, we started getting really tired and also really hot. After a short break and some water, my friends and I went back in for some more fun. Then after some more dancing and getting to know more people, I started getting really tired. It had been a long and very eventful day and I was ready to crash. So a little while before the party ended I ended up walking out with some friends that I had met. It had been a really fun night and I was really happy that I had gone to the party. I made a lot of new friends and I was able to reconnect with someone from middle school. I was ready to go home and crash in my bed from after all this fun!
