Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC12

Starr

At first I didn’t know what to do for the career part of the blog post, but when Marwa, our student teacher informed us about a Starr program that we can attend. It helps you connect with the SCDC and make new friends at Baruch College. My friend also informed me that she was going so we end up going together. The program starts at 11:00am and last until 12:15pm. We had class until 11:30am so we end up missing part of the information. When we arrived at the program, they were up to informing us about how a good resume would look like and how you can improve your resume to look just as good as that one. For example, they showed us examples of how a resume should be formatted. She informed us what we should put on our resume if we didn’t have any experience such as working or volunteering. She recommended that we put group projects that we worked on together to help show leadership and teamwork. She also recommended teams and clubs that we joined which could help a lot. We speed up the last few topics about what to write down under categories due to low amount of time. Me and my friend ended up missing part of the program, but we still left with some knowledge of how to create a professional resume.

Going to Metropolitan Museum of Arts

For my second blog post, I decided to visit a museum because of how convenient it is. Museums are everywhere and I could just hop to one after school. I decided to hit my friend up and we decided to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. When I got to the Museum, i found out that the amount you pay is up to you. I got on the line for the ticket, and everyone in front of me PAY at least some small amount of money. I decided to pay a little , otherwise we would feel bad. The museum was a complete maze. I did not know where I was headed as we walked. I saw a lot of statues in the beginning from the statue of Anubis to knights and more. There was also partial parts of pyramids and ancient objects. There was descriptions and story of each object but I did not read about most of them. Then I got to a room with a mini temple with water surrounding it. This brought back memories because I went to this museum when I was in elementary school. Soon, the guards informed us the museum was closing, so we decided to leave the museum. Overall, it was a fun and interesting trip because I usually never go to museums.

UCLA GIM#1

When I first saw my schedule at Baruch, I had no clue to what I was going to do during my two and a half hour break on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My FRO student teacher informed me that those gaps are for club hours. I had to find a club that suits me, otherwise I would have considerable amount of time on Tuesdays and Thursday to do nothing. My friend introduced me to UCLA (United Chinese Language Association), which is a club where you learn about the Chinese culture, family, and even offers mentorship. I did not know about any other clubs so I thought why not try UCLA. I went to their 2nd GIM which was on Sept. 7. My first impression was “There is so many people”. I heard that the club was popular but the amount of people filled up the entire room and some students had to start standing by the doorway. One of the sophomores in the club told me that the amount of students would decrease normally since it is just a GIM. At the GIM, we started off with the President and the other position of the club introducing themselves and a brief summary of the club. All of us had to sign in for attendance. To officially join the club, we needed to attend one GIM, one CLP, and one social event. The attendance was proof of that. Afterward, we went on with icebreakers. We played several team games to get everyone to know each other better. The upper-class wanted to take a group picture. Afterwards, refreshments were served. There was noodles, rice, and drinks. They informed me that the next CLP was about learning how to make paper lanterns which is going to take place on Sept.12. Overall, I had a great experience at the GIM. I met new people and made new friends. I met sophomores and juniors who could help me get used to the student life at Baruch.
