Freshman Seminar Fall 17 LC12

Baruch Voices

I was chosen to represent our block in Baruch voices and it was a very enriching experience. I originally didn’t plan of performing, but when my block chose me I was shocked. Going to the event I didn’t know what to expect, all I knew was that Marwa, our Fro mentor, was going to be hosting the event. I definitely was nervous to perform, mostly because I didn’t know what order I was in and I couldn’t anticipate when it was my turn to perform. Performing however, went by very quickly. Once I got on stage I had fun telling my story and the next I know I’m done. I am very grateful to have had this experience. I felt like this event helped me connect with Baruch as a community.

Boston Museum of Science

Over the weekend I wasn’t in New York, so I wasn’t able to go to a New York Museum. I stayed at my friends dorm and explored the city. I ended up walking by this museum and thought it was a great opportunity to walk around and hang out with my friends. There were many exhibits that on display but the ones that caught my eyes were the exhibits on space. There were models of different planetary masses and it was fun to see these realistic models of different stars and planets. One that stuck to my mind was a model of the sun. The sun wasn’t just a yellow ball of fire, but was more detailed. It had cool and hot spots, sun spots, and sun rings. If anyone is in the Boston area I highly suggest checking out the Boston Museum on Science.

UCLA

When I first got introduced to UCLA (United Chinese Language Association) I wasn’t quite sure what the club was about. I decided to go to a general meeting to get a better feel for the club. It turned out the general meeting was really fun. The club had a large number of incoming members and it surprised me how many people were interested. The meeting started with the execs introducing themselves and explained how the club was to promote and teach Chinese culture. We ended up playing google feud and zoom. These games got people involved and people genuinely enjoyed themselves. At the end of the meeting, the club came out with refreshments, bringing out Chinese food and drinks. I really enjoyed the vibe UCLA gave off and am interested in going to some more events.
