Career Planning

I was all over the place in what was going to be my major, but now that I have taken the assessment test I am a little more sure about what I am going to do. Still, I am not once hundred percent sure. The tests told me that I was interested in Arts and Social matters, something that I already knew, but also told me that I am not very realistic, so I have to consider that. I have been having the doubt of whether or not Journalism and Psychology were good major, and now that the assessment test have told me that they are both good for me, i am going to have a less hard time deciding which one of them to pick. What I also liked is that the tests give you job option. It said that I should be a broadcaster, something I can definitely see myself doing, or a career counselor, something i am interested about to. Choreographer was another option, but I have no idea how the test got that, since I do not know how to dance and they did not ask me that. Still, I am happy I took the tests, they were very accurate and gave me the responds i already knew, kind of.

Art Gallery

The Mishkin art gallery was interesting. I was aware of the existence of the gallery because many of my friends told me, but I did not visit it until I had to, because of this assignment. I liked many of the pictures but I did not find anything interesting or unique  about them, of course that does not mean they were not beautiful, but I do not have a very good sense of judgement in paintings, I prefer music or motion pictures. Still, it is amazing to think of the talent of the painters, especially Zhang Hui, I do not remember the name of the painting but the amount of time and dedication that painting must have taken, just to think about it, it’s amazing. The details in every picture are overwhelming and amazing, I cannot imagine myself taking the time and having the patience to paint like that, and even if I wanted to I do not have the talent. Visiting the gallery opened my eyes in many ways because I used to think paintings were rushed and did not take time, but now that I saw it up close it was amazing to see the characteristics and shapes of the images.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Enrichment workshop was very informative. I have already been to many of the meditation sessions Megan gives, but I have never known that many factors can influence stress as we go along college. I personally have struggled with anxiety my whole life and being able to accept that had helped me a lot. I did not know you could do little relaxation exercises while you are in the class or in the bus. Knowing the different factors of stress and what it can lead to is making me think about my methods of study and also how much I give to my college experience. Just breathing and relaxing can liberate you from the inevitable pressure of the homework and midterms, so yes, it was very helpful.

Frank’s Monologue

There’s a comedy show on HBO called “Girls” and the first time I watched it I did not know what to think. It portraits this woman named Hannah who finished college two years ago and now is trying to figure out what is going to be her next step. What I mean when I say I did not know what to think is that in the first episode there is an anal sex scene pretty real but still funny. By the third episode the sex scenes just got worst but for some reason I could not stop watching it. What is so original about the show is that not only has A-class writing but also shows sex among young people as what it really is, not a sexy, formulated action but the inexperienced, weird and sometimes unhygienic mess it really is. But I do have a problem with it. I have all this girl friends who have told me the show is not just empowering but a portrait of the reality of many girls living in New York. I have a sister who is fifteen years old and I would not like her having sex with random guys or snorting cocaine while dancing a song called “I love it”. Even though the show clearly explores the universal idea of getting into the real world after being supported financially and emotionally by your parents, and even though I celebrate Hannah’s behavior, I would never want my sister to do the same life choices. That is why I have not recommended the show to her and I practically watch it in secret.

Frank’s Playlist

Frank’s Playlist

1. Zero – Yeah Yeah Yeahs

2. Innuendo – Queen

3. Call Your Girlfriend – Robyn

4. Hyperballad – Bjork

5. Push and Shove – No Doubt

6. Bounce – Calvin Harris

7. Pyramids – Frank Ocean

8. Charlie Brown – Coldplay

9. Born Free – M.I.A.

10. Bulletproof Heart – My Chemical Romance

I have no idea what my classmates think about me. I love to laugh in general. I can laugh at anything, and I love to make people around me laugh, that is what makes me happy.

I listen to music in Spanish and English, but I was careful on choosing this playlist because nobody is going to understand Spanish songs. I still remember listening to “Zero” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and falling in love with the song. I do believe is one of the best songs I have ever heard and one of my favorites, every time I hear it is like the first time, and it’s the song that started my love for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “Innuendo” by Queen just resumes what’s so amazing about Queen, and when I listen to the song it makes me feel alive, like I have no time to waste. “Call Your Girlfriend” is a party song and I love it, not because of the message of it– actually the message is pretty awful – but because of the tune, it makes me want to go to a club a dance all night. “Hyperballad” by Bjork is a good song when you are feeling suicidal (that was a joke, I have learnt sometimes you have to point out what is a joke and what’s not).  I love “Push and Shove” by No Doubt ever since I heard it on their new album, I’ve loved them for a long time and that song did not disappoint. “Bounce” by Calvin Harris is a song I have danced to many times in clubs in Peru, and even today when I hear it I still can see myself with my Peruvian friends rocking it on the dance floor. “Pyramids” by Frank Ocean is a song I felt in love with when I listened to the whole “Channel Orange” album, it’s almost like a story divided in two parts, and it’s pretty relaxing to listen to. “Charlie Brown” by Coldplay is a song I don’t particularly love but it just resumes the sound I like in a Coldplay song, somehow it resumes their whole repertoire. “Born Free” by M.I.A. is a very political song and by the name it may seem like this freedom anthem every single artist has been releasing these few years, but it is more than that, and you can see that in the controversial video. “Bulletproof Heart” by My Chemical Romance just happens to be one of my favorites in the last album and that is why I thought many of you would like it.
