Freshman Seminar – Spring 2015, DTD

How time flies, I didn’t realize that I have been in Baruch for three mouths. The most interesting class which inspires me is theater art class. My former school didn’t pay attention to educating students in art; most teachers just show some movies instead of talking and teaching art when I was in china. So this is my first time to accept a real art class in Baruch. In order to finish professor’s assignment, I went to watch the show sleep no more.   

Sleep No More is a really amazing show which changes my concept of play. It is really different from the traditional play which makes the audience sat down under the stage and the show only plays on the stage. However, in this show, audience can feel the actors’ feelings not only through their behavior but also their face and eyes.

SLEEP NO MORE

This is my first time to live alone in NYC. When I was ‘controlled’ by my parents, I was thinking about the day I can live alone. However, when the day is really coming, I feel nervous and I realize that I will face a lot of questions that I may not have ability to solve it. Although, I hope I can always be happy and keep running to my future.

My name is Junlin Zhang. I am from China. I have been in New York only for one month. For me, the reason I choose school in New York City is that New York is really like Shanghai, My favorite city. Shanghai is a beautiful city and famous for her international economy and amazing history. About three hundred years ago, there is nothing in Shanghai and Shanghai is only a little harbor. Right now Shanghai is the largest city in China.

When I was ten years old, I started to learn to play the piano. Unfortunately，I am not someone who is really interesting in music. However, under my mum’s stress, I can play few songs. Although music is not my taste, I do like playing the piano which make you feel relaxed and a sense of achievement.

I am really interested in painting. However, my mum thought once I start learning painting I will lose interest in it. I am total disagree with my mum’s words for that I believe I have passion on painting. Now, I am looking for a chance to study painting. Maybe in summer. By the way, my favorite artist is Van Gogh.

My favorite movie is the lion king. It is the first time to me to appreciate the beauty of nature and grassland and inspire me to explore the life of animals. Therefore, When I was a little child i was dreaming to have a little lion to be his sister and take care of him.

My favorite movie star is Leslie Zhang. He is a very handsome and charming artist! There are two kind people in the world. One kind people is who like Leslie and another kind people don’t know him. I also like Avril Lavigne and Taylor swift.

My favorite cartoon is detective canon which is from Japan. That why I want to go to Japan, but also for Sakura and Fuji mountain.

Before I came to New York City, all the stories about New York I know is from the film and TV play like gossip girl. The real New York is a little bit different from what I thought. First, the winter is more cold than what I thought. Second, the city is not such clean, especially subway. Third, people in this city are more hard working than what I thought before.

During the time in college, I want to spend more time to do what I like to do and to learn what I want to learn.
