On Thursday, February 16th, I attended Spotlight Program by Baker Tilly along with my friend Alison. A good advice about going to a first club meeting is, to never be late especially 20 minutes. It gets very awkward otherwise, and finding seats with your friend is also very hard. The speakers at the club include Alison Walsh, and Patrick Yu (CPA). The club is designed for members who want to major in accounting, and Baker Tilly is a very good start for those that want an internship or a job. At the club, the speakers went over how one should prepare for their first interview, how to make a resume, how to dress appropriately and etc. All these things were actually very eye-opening, even though we might think we know the basics. Mr. Yu specifically talks about how you should present yourself and that includes how you dress because first impressions are everything. You don’t have a second chance at a job interview. The resume advice was very helpful as well, and how to build a resume based on what you want to do. When presenting yourself, self-confidence is the key. Having to do background research on the company you want to go in, is always very important. Memorizing key points could just about help you in this.
Overall I believe the presentation was very well done. Students participated from the Baker Tilly firm and talked about their experiences so far. Other students who want to join the firm or want an internship with them over this upcoming summer, also talked about what they want to do. I would recommend this club to anyone who’s interested in majoring in accounting because not only were the staffs exceptional but the new students that joined the firm, also had a lot of good things to say about the firm. They teach will teach you ways to get ready for that job interview you have, and it would actually benefit you to join if you’re interested in the Baker Tilly business. A major plus point is that you get free food, and they have really good sandwiches.
