Globalization of English

FAQ

What happens if I miss class or I am late?

If you are late 5 times, that will count as 1 absence. If you are absent four times, you are fine. Each class missed after that will lower your total course grade by five points. Missing class for seven times will result in a WU regardless of justification/documentation. Please plan your absences accordingly and save them for when you really need them.

I did not submit a draft. What happens?

Not submitting a draft by the date indicated on the course schedule will cost you 3 points per draft toward your assignments. Not submitting the final draft after the deadline will cost you 3 points per day.

Where do I submit stuff?

First, you must create a Google Document (not an uploaded Microsoft Word document) within your Google Drive Team Folder. Title the document with your First Name and Last Name only. Then, be sure to keep the most updated version of your assignment there at all times. During the days when a draft is due in class (the first draft and final draft of each assignment), bring a hard copy to class in addition to the electronic version in the drive.

I don’t have a laptop. What do I do to participate in peer review in class?

You may borrow a laptop from the library for each review day in the course schedule, or you may bring a hard copy as a last resort. Phones and tablets are highly discouraged.

Is revision required?

Yes. Revision is required to refine your ideas over the course of the semester.

How do I choose what to research?

I encourage you to think about situations that you have, you had, or you will have personal experience with. For example, if you plan to be in the real estate industry or if you have a dream job or company, you may choose to study and profile English in that environment. You may use this project as an opportunity to interview or conduct a survey in collaboration with a particular business. You may also choose to profile English in the neighborhood where you live now or where you want to work one day. You may choose to work with a local community center or non-profit where you work to profile English in that area.

I am disappointed with the professor or something about the class. What do I do?

Your professor would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how to improve your experience in the class. Please reach out by email or in person after class to discuss how to make the class better for you. Please reach out as early as possible so we have time to address your concerns and suggestions, improving the class and your experience in it.
