Welcome! It’s time for takeoff. Glad you’re here. Come on in. Grab some hydration. Remember to stretch. Here we go!

This week is all about navigating the class—where to go to get things done.
Here’s what you need to do this week.
1. Take the Intro Survey.
Before you get started, please take the Intro Survey. Click here to go do that. It’s due by 5pm Monday.
The fact that we aren’t meeting in person or even exchanging a lot of face time online makes trust-building with each other all that much more important. Consider it a space to open up dialogue between us and help me understand the context to which you are entering this class—what you want to learn, what your expectations are for the course, how you intend to engage, and, of course, any questions you have about the class.
2. Read the Syllabus.

This is an essential first step. The Syllabus is the roadmap to this course. It introduces the objectives, expectations, and organization of the course.
I really wanna stress: Know what’s in here and refer to it as a resource, a kind of living educational contract and set of agreements between us as a group; it tells you what to expect from the course, what the course expects from you, and how to succeed in it. I have seen many-a-student suffer from anxiety and paranoia about missed or forgotten deadlines, assignment instructions, and an overall sense of direction in the course because they didn’t, at the start of the class, take some time to read through the Syllabus for the course they are in. Just saying! Please read the Syllabus.
3. Complete the Week 1 course module. The module begins at the bottom of this page. It should take about 3-4 hours to complete it.

Click the button at the bottom of this page to access this weeks’ course content. You may want to take notes while you go through the content. And be sure to track your progress: take some record (note, bookmark, browser history, copy the URL, etc.) of your place when you pause to take a break or come back later.
We’re going to use a few web platforms, and it is best if we all take time to get familiar with them sooner than later. So this week’s module is mostly about navigating the class web platforms, then it dives into some introduction to the course content.
Ideally, we can get to any troubleshooting issues by the first couple of days—so please be vocal about questions and issues as they arise.
4. Post your Blog 1 entry to this website by noon Wednesday.
You’ll find the prompt for Blog 1 at the end of the Module.
5. Leave a comment on your peers’ Blog 1 entries by noon Thursday.
You’ll find their posts displayed on this site.
6. Join the live class check-in on Zoom on Thursday, July 16 from 4:30-5:30 pm.

Note: If you are unable to attend class discussions, please contact me ASAP and let me know. However, it’s okay—as in, you can complete the course without attending them, but you will need to (1) watch a recording of our discussion later and (2) complete a discussion review check-in within 48 hours of the discussion.
Also note that by participating in class check-ins, you need to consent to being recorded (only for the use of other students) during the Zoom meeting. If you do not consent to being recorded (only for the use of other students), let me know ASAP.
