How does Pizan advise her readers to change the way they read the work of male authors of the past?

During the beginning of the book The City of Ladies Pizan, Christine de Pizan’s introduces herself as not being confident about herself. She was born and raised mostly around a male-dominated world. She informs the readers that women are outcasts. She shows her feeling that males authors are being sexist towards women. As the male authors introduce a Misogynistic view, they did not have the knowledge for women’s history. The three sisters were the ones to encourage her and inform her that women are as equal as men in all types of ways. She used her knowledge to stand up for women’s rights. She wanted to show to everyone that women should be treated equally the same as the man.

  1. I agree with you that Christine de Pizan wanted her audience to see that women are equal to men. Her use of three women figures did help bring her desired message to her readers. She does a great job sharing the stories of different women to prove the male authors of the past wrong. These authors do have misogynistic views and do not care to see the value and worth women truly hold. They simply stick to their negative perception of women and continue to share that with the world. Pizan hopes that her book would allow people to change their opinions on women and fight against these works by male authors.

  2. I agree with you. In that era, the male authors are being sexist towards women. The male authors often spread false information about women in their books. Pizan wants her readers to realize that women are being treated unfairly in the male authors’ works. Pizan tries to tell readers that women and men are equal.
