Virgil plays a pivotal role in Dante’s journey through hell as his guide. In addition, Virgil pushes Dante to continue and not give up during various moments in the journey and protects him from the demons that they encounter. During some occasions, Dante appeared powerless, yet Virgil comforted him and helped him gain some confidence. Virgil’s wisdom and noble virtues help Dante get through the obstacles that kept preventing him from reaching his goal. Therefore, Virgil was the main reason Dante made it through this journey.

Consider the relationship between Dante and Virgil.
Both Virgil and Dante have a relationship in hell because of Dante exploration of the nature of sin. Dante explores through hell and Virgil is his support. Virgil is guidance for Dante in a way as he shows Dante the results of actions that can cause if his interests change. As Dante deals with conflicts as he loses his path. Virgil protects Dante even though he gets impatient with him. They share a strong relationship due to Virgil symbolizing guidance and Dante a representation of the human race.

Being overly emotional, throughout his journey through hell Dante occasionally gets frightened and tired. On this exhausting journey Dante is being helped by Virgil who serves as his guide. Whenever Dante falls down Virgil is there to encourage him to keep moving through hell. Virgil’s wisdom is not the only way in which he helps Dante make it through hell as he also protects him from various demons. Generally speaking, Virgil’s role is to balance out Dante’s defects and help him accomplish his mission.

In Li Bo’s “In the Quiet Night“, he uses the moon as a tool to address he is missing his homeland. Moonlight is a natural phenomenon that can be seen at everywhere and the moon is the same one that Li Bo has seen in his homeland. (Vol. B 1027) In Du Fu’s “Spring Prospect“, Du uses weeds to address that there is no more people living in the city because of war. (Vol. B 1017)

virgil’s relationship with Dante is based on seeing him through the different levels in hell. Virgil was to show Dante the consequences of him failing to change and come back to God in his life. From the onset, Dante had a lot of doubts regarding the expedition that he was on. The relationship with Virgil crops when he reveals to Dante. He had been sent by St. Lucy and Beatrice from heaven to give him guidance and protection.

I find the poems descriptive. The writers themselves write in a way to provoke the readers to be in his shoes. The 637th poem from Book 13. Love from The Kokinshu, written anonymously, is about parting. (Norton B, 1116) What I like about this poem is that one can imagine that when he and his lover wakes up in the morning, they collective their separate clothing and walk away separately. Separation is part of life.
