I believe that Cloud follows the theme of growing up in the world. We start off not knowing much of the world, “It was like nothing I had ever seen before.” But as we get older we start to realize all there is to this world, “Later I saw the first real cloud, I directly understood it.” As we grow older we become wiser, and we may have gone through this world as we’ve grown up, but it isn’t until we’ve experienced everything that we understand exactly what we have experienced. “You could take the lamp down with you. You don’t do it. This house will always be in darkness, and you’ve got to learn it and relearn it by touch.”(836) In this quote Felipe must go through the house one time, touching everything to get the feel of it, in order to be able to understand his surroundings the next time he comes around. This is just like how we need to experience life to grow into adults.

I really like the connection you made between “My Cloud” and Aura with progression. I feel that your quote was perfect to use in the comparison as if used alone, I would not had to made the connection to growing up. However I do think your quote was well picked. Your quote shows how Felipe had to get accustomed to the new environment with his sense of touch.

I thought the theme you chose between “My Cloud” and “Aura” was very interesting I didn’t think of it that way at first. I like how you some about the theme of growth over time. I did not see Felipe as learning everything as he goes but rather that he was imagining it. I agree your quote was well picked it demonstrates how Felipe is learning the new environment that he is in and getting accustomed to it as well.

I absolutely agree with your interpretation and your choice of theme. It relates to the idea that “you learn from your own mistakes” since like you said, in order to “grow up” or “become adults,” we have to experience whatever life throws at us and only then will we be find of it or mature about it in future cases. Also, I really like the quote you chose from Aura because it relates well with your theme. I did not think of this approach, and I like that you broadened my knowledge on the matter. Great response!

Great interpretation, I love the way you connected Felipe having to know how to get around the house in darkness with growing old and wise.
Certainly, there is a connection there. You chose great quotes from both “My Cloud” and “Aura” to back up what you had to say about growing older and wiser.

That’s a great way to interpret both stories. Reading your analysis I can understand how both could be referring to wanting to keep their and realizing that things change with time. The theme I went with is that they have distorted reality to make it into their reality so they are able to get through life happy. However, I think both of our themes relate because either way, the characters of both stories think the way they do because they are trying to hold on to their youth.

I agree with your theme that people have to accept the coming of old age. People do usually get smarter and “wiser” when they grow older. However, it is true that you must do something in order to have the experience of doing it. Felipe traverses a new and mysterious environment in the house. He must adapt to the darkness of the house and figure out which path leads to which room. This is symbolic of the fact that experiences come as we age.
