The video breath and the poem the virginal vibrant and beautiful dawn has a lot in common with the becketts play, “endgame.” In endgame it the scene is dark and very strange. The characters aren’t living for much, they are dismembered and the story is very existentialist. In the video “breath” it is a dark room with a lot of clutter. It is a lot like endgame, it is a dark mysterious scene, it makes you question what is life really about. When you turn on the lights in that room it’s just garbage, and that’s what life is, meaningless like garbage. In the poem they are speaking about how a lake is frozen due to the sun not shining. This has a lot to do in common with the play and the video. It gives us dark imagery, the sun stops shining, and then something that was once beautiful and full of life, becomes something dead.

Really interesting. I like how differently we viewed the poem. I wished you used a quote so I could better understand the part of the frozen lake not shining. On the poem I was more focused on the swan but you reminded me that the lake was what kept the swan pinned down.

I completely agree with your entire statement especially how the setting of the film breath matches up with the theme of nihilism in endgame. The setting of breath does mimic garbage giving of the impression that life is meaningless and not worthwhile. I like your take on the poem and how you described it as a frozen lake which is the direct consequence of no sunlight. With no sunlight means constant darkness which is prevalent in Beckett.

I agree with you that Endgame and the video “Breath” both has setting in the dark, gloomy environment that points out that the life is full of darkness and unhappiness. This poses question of existence – if it is worth leaving. It is interesting how the video only shows garbage by focusing on negatives of the life. making point that the end product of life is waste.
