- In Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”, Gregor Samsa’s transformation into a cockroach and the alienation he received from his family symbolizes how outsiders are viewed and treated by society.
- In Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”, Gregor’s tragic death is the point where he finds true happiness and freedom as he’s at the end of his transformation where he no longer has to conform with the norms of society.
- In Carlo Fuentes’s “Aura”, both Consuelo and Felipe achieve happiness by entrapping themselves in a dreamlike state where they engage in each others’ fantasies and forget about the limits of reality.

Hi,
I think your first thesis statement is your best one. It is concise enough to be able to develop a well thought out idea but you still have a lot to write about. I like your concept of symbolism and i think this will make for a very interesting essay.

For this paper I think your second thesis is strongest. I agree that Gregor experiences a sense of freedom or relieve at his death and you’re right to say that he no longer needs to conform to the norms of society. There is a lot of evidence to back up this claim and I feel like you would benefit from going with this particular thesis. I see good things coming out of your essay, best of luck!

Marvin, nicely done!
I think all three could work, with some tweaking. In your first, you would need to specify exactly how outsiders are viewed (and specify, as well, what you mean by an outsider). Also, I would focus on only one family member to represent this. In your second, you would need to show the points of Gregor’s transitions that lead, ultimately, to his happiness. In the third, as in the second, you would need to show the transformational points, and here, I would choose either Consuelo or Felipe, but not both.
