I definitely like the idea behind the first thesis statement, but I do think it could be better developed. For example, you can provide examples that back up your claim in the sentence. These examples should be be able to answer, in what ways does Moliere demonstrate this issue through Orgon?
As for the second thesis statement, I also like the idea behind it. But similarly to the first thesis statement, it is missing the important element of the author. It also could include a few examples that back up your claim.
Overall, both very good ideas for your essay. But they could be developed a little more. Good stuff!

Both of these thesis statements do in fact examine a large subject matter in their respective stories. Personally, I suggest Thesis 2 would be the better choice between the two simply because it is more specific and therefore it will be much easier to remain on the focus of discussion. In your second thesis, you make a firm statement, that being the acceptance of hypocrisy from Orgon. This is an effective way to initiate the essay as you will use your body paragraphs to explain your rationale. The key in the essay is to remain on the subject of your thesis statement, without going onto other tangents, and using thesis 1 seems like it may be hard to do that. Certainly a judgement call however. Good work nevertheless.

Your thesis #1 does emphasize a huge section, which is moral judgment, is good that you added Orgon since he was the main victim from Tartuffe. Your thesis may give a reader the impression that something is to be learned from what’s next, plays like Tartuffe help the reader obtain insights and lessons that are quite useful, after all letting a stranger inside one’s home may not be a wise idea based on the perspective author, but at the same time it gets us to question moral judgment. I’ll like to get a glance of your draft this Wednesday, I’m curious as to how you’ll expand on your thesis.

    Kelly,
In your first statement, your observation is valid, but very broad, in terms of a thesis. In other words, what “beliefs” are impacting what “moral judgment”? Your second statement is a bit confusing at the end, so you would want to reword this. Also, if you discuss the ending, you also need to discuss how this ending connects, specifically, to Tartuffe’s and Orgon’s behavior in the play.
