I strongly believe that I have improved in many different things. I really do believe that most of my improvements came from reading all of the stories and sharing what I thought about them for our post every week. Also, I do think also think  I improved when it comes to speaking in our circle sessions in class. Even though I could improve a little more when it comes to that. Another, is that I do believe I improved when it comes to citing in my essay and keeping my essay well organized with transitions. Overall, I do believe I improved in many different parts. When we first started in the beginning of the semester I was way more shy but as the semester continued I wasn’t as shy. One thing that I do believe i still need to work on is when it comes time to free write. It could get difficult for me to think in such a fast pace and to be able to make it all make sense at the end.

Speaking in public and making cohesive sense can be difficult sometimes and I would agree speaking openly in a circle was very helpful. In regard to the simply citing I find that I always forget that too outthink it can always be done by simply searching on the internet for the rules of citation. Its been a great semester.

Francesca , reading every week and writing about the readings definitely helped me improve as a writer also! I also think that reading every week helped my time management skills, even though that’s an area I still need to improve on. I didn’t write about citing in my post, but that’s something I need to improve on. I was shy in the beginning of the semester also but I enjoyed speaking in our circle sessions. Free writing can be hard, but when I free write I like to write the first thing that comes to my mind after reading the text instead of thinking too much.

This semester, especially in this class, has been beneficial to me in many ways. I believe that I have grown with various skills, such as my ability to talk in front of a group and writing well thought out essays under a time constrain. For instance, I’ve never minded writing that much, but in 3 of my classes this semester I have had to get used to writing essays for the midterms and finals. This has made me learn how to construct an organized and concise essay under the pressure of an hour and a half or two hours. Previously, I haven’t had to do this unless it was for a high school AP exam. But now, I am getting used to the pressure and it does not make me as nervous, therefore, I am doing better on each exam. Also, speaking in front of the class, not only in this class, but in others as well, has helped me open up in my ideas and express myself professionally. Although school isn’t usually thought of as a professional environment, trying to form my ideas in a respectful and conscious manner has made me more aware of how I present myself and what I am thinking. In turn, I think I will be better prepared to do interviews for my future career and so forth because I am practicing how to talk in front of my peers and authoritative figures. Overall, I’d say that I have learned several vital skills, like time management, being able to work in groups, and problem solving, that I will be able to use in the coming years of my life as a businesswoman. Thank you, Professor, for giving me the opportunity to grow as a student and as a professional adult in your class. I’ve really enjoyed the semester!

Francesca, I agree that improvements were made for you in speaking out. When I first met you at the beginning of the semester, you were more shy when it came to talking in front of a group. But over the semester I’ve noticed youve become more comfortable and at ease. This is a great improvement for you! As you also mentioned, I agree that the readings caused some growth as well. I think reading such diverse and sometimes difficult pieces helped open up discussions and engaged critical thinking I wouldnt have had if we hadn’t done these readings. Like you said, I think the free writing is an area we all can learn to work on throughout our school careers. It is an area that comes with practice, and I agree that it can become overwhelming trying to form organized ideas under pressure. Like I previously stated, I think this will be improved over time with more and more practice. Just keep trying!

Francesca, free writing is sometimes really difficult because you have to think on the spot and I understand how you feel. A past professor of mine actually advised us to just keep on writing anything, whether it be “I don’t know what to write,” and keep writing until you come up with something. This keeps your brain active as you search for things to write about. I have found it semi useful, maybe you can try this as well!
