NICOLE: How is the narrator in life of a sensuous woman different from Bartleby when dealing with the satisfaction of others? Is one of these characters more worried of the perception of others than the other?
TARA: Compare Monkey’s journey in Journey to the West, to the Woman’s journey in From life of a Sensuous Woman. Did they both achieve enlightenment at the end of their journey?
MARIA: Compare and contrast Monkey, the Sensuous Woman and Bartleby in the role of a traditional hero, anti-hero or satanic hero. What makes them one of the three types of heroes if any?

Tara, I think your question is the most clear out of your group’s, and I found it to a legitimate option similar to something we’d see on the exam. I can imagine seeing a question like this on Tuesday because it involves bringing together two very different readings based on a similar theme. I think the theme of reaching enlightenment is a good way to make us examine how Monkey and the Woman relate in their journeys (or how they differ), which makes us use critical thinking skills to relate or contrast the stories using this theme.

Maria’s question is effective in that it covers all three texts that we read so far and that it covers the different types of heroes. However, I think the question is very vague and doesn’t steer the answer to be an analytical response. What is being compared or contrasted as the question here is, “what makes monkey, the sensuous woman and Bartleby one of the three types of heroes or not a hero?” I think a more effective midterm question could be, “Compare Monkey, the sensuous woman and Bartleby- how are they similar heroes or how are they not heroes at all?”

The questions here are good, they all make sense and are straightforward. Nicole, I specifically like yours because my question is also about Life of a Sensuous Woman and “Bartleby the Scrivener”. With your question, we must take a moment to really think about the differences between the woman and Bartleby. However, being that they are from two different backgrounds, it is quite easy to differ the character traits of the woman and Bartleby. Therefore, it will help us analyze and interpret how these two feel about the way others see them. As well as giving us more of an understanding of the woman and Bartleby.

All of these questions are very good and they are clear. Tara your question stood out to me the most and I believe it because I do see it coming up on the exam. I agree with the theme of enlightenment being seen in both of these stories. Also, your question is stated very clearly and I know exactly what you are looking for. Even though they are from two different texts they somewhat come together at the end. Also, there is a lot of different quotations arm each story that can be related to your question as well. Overall they are all very clear, as I mentioned earlier.

Tara, I liked your question the most within your group. It was very clear and easy to understand as well as complex only in the sense that the answers written could all be very different. I thought the way you properly stylized the texts was very professional and the question you were asking was open-ended. This means that the answers could be insightful and a “to each their own” kind of response. Since enlightenment can be defined any different way depending on the writer, and the writer’s view of the two heroes can be different, the question is one that leaves a lot of room for personal thought.

I think Tara’s question is very effective. The question seems like a general and simple question but it requires a great knowledge of the two works. Monkey’s journey and the woman’s journey might have different processes to achieve enlightenment and they definitely ask for a full understanding of the two works. This question also makes us consider every single event from the two works and how these events affect the main characters. As well as this, it covers all of what we have done so far for online assignment based on the heroic journey by Joseph Campbell and how the narrators of the two stories see the characters in the stories.
