In Hafez’ work, his poems are mostly about pleasures that he would not be able to practice in his own life, because he’s a Sufis that practices asceticism. I assume what he had written in his poems were his desires, but it can also be what he had experienced. A glass of wine was what made him try to forget what he was doing, and he continues to do it in one of his poems in order to not feel the guilt. And Hafez truly believed pleasure is what gives you happiness, despite all the heartbreak, drunkenness and everything else that comes with it. It goes against everything he is, but that is humanity.

Plato- The Symposium
Plato, in The Symposium, makes Love seem as natural parts of life. He refers to love as two different kinds of Love: 1) Commonly Love (Sexual attraction) and 2) Heavenly Love. With Heavenly Love being the most difficult to find because it is on a spiritual level. Plato then compares Love to someone’s health system within the body, how it communicates with each other to keep the person healthy. Love is also referred to as a person, a God many times throughout the story, a young god, and as a mortal man. He (Love) is also seen as the Moon, astronomically.
According to Plato, Love is dependent on Necessity. Always needing what it does not have. Once he receives what is needed, he gains happiness and knowledge of what Beauty really is. Love affects the decisions people make everyday, whether its a person, an object, a sport, or hobby, it is their passion.
Is Odysseus or anyone else in The Odyssey a hero? If so, what does this tell us about western ideas of heroism? Do any of these ideas remain in place today or have they changed? If so, how or how not and why or why not?
Odysseus was a hero when he fought in the Trojan war. He sacrificed and risked his life for others in his city. A hero is a person that risks their own lives for others safety and security, without even thinking about themselves or the consequences. They are selfless people that do not see themselves as heroes, but the people around them do. Someone who is a heroe, has impulsive actions and can be considered a leader by the people.
