In Dante’s Divine Comedy, the pilgrim (Dante) and Virgil have a close relationship. To begin with, the two have much in common due to both being poets and they seem to bond over this. Additionally, Dante has a great amount of respect for Virgil so this shapes how Dante interacts with him. Throughout the comedy, Virgil admonishes Dante for having sympathy towards the damned and their condition and each time Dante apologizes for this to which Virgil accepts his apology. Virgil also serves as a protector, interpreter, and spokesperson for Dante as they journey further into the underworld.

I agree with you regarding the relationship between Dante and Virgil. Virgil is not only a guide to Dante, but also a protector and interpreter as you state. Their relationship starts off with the bond over them both being poets, but as the journey continues they grow a stronger bond that is not only based off that.
I totally agree with what you have stated about Dante and Virgil’s relationship. Although Virgil was sent to Dante as a guide, he later serves as an educator. Like you mentioned, their bond only gets stronger as they proceed to the different circles of hell.
I agree with your opinion about Dante and Virgil’s relationship. Through out the whole comedy, Dante always shows his praise and respect to Virgil. He thinks that Virgil represents knowledge and hope. But I feel compare to protector and interpreter, Virgil is more like a mentor to Dante.
