Fall and New York City
The weather is beautiful today. To me, this is the best kind of weather. Don’t judge, but I love when it starts to get chilly and you can wear your Abba‘s old sweater layered over a summer dress and get away with it. Yes, I wear my dad’s sweater. It kind of makes me wish I weren’t sitting at home, writing a paper. Or at least, sitting at home. It’s a Central Park day, for sure. Although something tells me I wouldn’t get any homework done except maybe if my homework involved drinking hot apple cider from Starbucks and spotting the cute boys going for a run in the park.
Also, this is going to sound kind of lame, but I love the sound of wind in the trees, especially when the leaves turn red. I know, it’s pretty corny of me. But I’m a reader and writer at heart, and we tend to get a little sappy, especially when nice weather like this surfaces after three days of flooding and intermittent frizzy hair weather. I mean, really- what kid didn’t run around stomping on the crunchy, shriveled up leaves come fall? I still do it. Anyone else? Anyone?

When Harry Met Sally (always a classic)
Tell me that didn’t give you a sudden urge to jump on the nearest train and take it all the way to 59th street, 5th avenue.
Well, the weather may be nice, but I don’t suppose one of you wants to do my homework, do you? No, I didn’t think so. I should be getting back to the 2005 merger between Sprint and Nextel. Or maybe I’ll forgo that for some apple cider, care of my kitchen refrigerator…
Oh, and one last note:
Autumn in New York – Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
It doesn’t really get more magnificent than Ella and Louis, does it?
My Thoughts About The Near Future
I am very excited for my birthday which is coming up in 8 days ! (October 21st). My 2 best friends united to organize a surprise birthday party. Now you may ask if its a surprise why do i know about it, well the answer is simple; had they not organized the party and let me know about it, i would have organized my own party. Therefore, they decided to let me know not to organize anything and just wait for instructions!
Besides them organizing my surprise party, i am planning on going sky diving! well its defiantly going to be something memorable to do with my friends and i have always wanted to do it so why not now? Oh did i mention that my parents know nothing of this? Yea, about that… I am just thinking of coming home and showing them the video. They can’t really do much can they? I mean if jumping out of a plane didn’t kill me, i shouldn’t really be afraid of them right?
So what i do know about my birthday is that my friends and i will be going to some place to get food, and then head on to a club in the city, after all my job is promoting clubs in the city… By the way, everyone reading this is more then welcome to join me at either of the 3 events. Just let me know and i will give you one of my friends contact information.

deadmau5
deadmau5 is a house dj who i have liked for many years now. I have always heard mixed reviews of his shows, some people saying that he played only an hour, and others saying he was amazing. I decided to buy a ticket from a friend and go on his first night in Manhattan. Two other djs before him, Zed’s Dead and Excision, played some incredible sets. Then deadmau5 comes on and blows my mind. He started with a breathtaking visualizer, and then the cubes emerged. By cubes, I mean four cube shaped visualizers that produce incredible effects, as it changed on beat and for each song. I have uploaded the video for you to fully understand the concept of the cubes. This concert was absolutely perfect and I encourage anyone who does not know about his music to give it a chance. I would rate the concert a perfect 10/10…Enjoy the Video

The Happiest Place on Earth
So do you want to be happy? Then I suggest that you take yourself down to the happiest place on earth. Yes, the happiest place on earth! I suggest you take yourself down to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I don’t think a single place in this world can ever be filled with so many happy people at all once, other than Disney World. Well I have to say that since both Disney World and Universal Studios are in Orlando, maybe the whole term can be applied to Orlando itself, as people generally visit both places, and everyone there is just so happy! I went down to Orlando in the summer with my cousins, and I’ve got to say, I probably have never felt happier or ever seen so many happy people. It was as if I was living in a dream world, which was just so perfect. Everybody emphasized ‘smiling’. For example, I went to a Dunkin Donuts there, and the guy at the registrar was smiling huge and telling each and every customer “Smile. It won’t hurt you to smile.” The positive attitude may come from it being the happiest place on earth. Everything besides the weather was perfect. If you love thunder and rain, which I personally do, then the weather may also be perfect. However, it was really hot! Other than that, I had an amazing time there.
Disney World is not only a place for kids, as many people may assume, but also for adults. It is a place where everyone forgets about all their worries, and just takes a break, immersing themselves in ‘the ideal world’ filled with magic. It has 4 parks which are filled with the magic and mystery of happiness. Happiness surrounds each and every corner of the parks. It all starts with the Magic Kingdom, where Cinderella’s castle is located. In the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, little girls can be transformed into princesses. I loved was the electrical parade at night, along with the fireworks, and the presentation on the castle. I think everyone was especially moved by the presentation, in which images were projected on to the castle. It was a show in a way, promoting then idea that you should believe in the beauty of your dreams. I will never forget that heartwarming experience.
Another park is Epcot which is divided into sections imitating other countries. You can find the country’s food and cultural events in those areas. In the night, there are fireworks and there is a presentation on the big, white globe Epcot is famous for. Now, if you don’t find your country in Epcot, don’t panic, because you still have a chance to find it in Animal Kingdom, which is also split by countries. The other park is Hollywood Studios, in which you can experience all the magic of the movies, and even go on the Tower of Terror.
As you make your way across the parks, you get a chance to meet the characters and take pictures with them. You can watch the various presentations or musicals held throughout the day, enjoy delicious food, sing, dance, and become a kid again, living your own fairytale. The happy atmosphere produces happy people. Everyone is basically a tourist, most of them coming from outside of the United States. Everyone was very friendly, happy, and just there to enjoy. Evreryone had smiles on their faces, as they made their way thought the parks with the people they love.
I especially met many people from England, but I think that’s because of the Harry Potter park in Universal Studios, which I absolutely loved as well. For me, a huge harry potter fan, I definitely lived my dreams in Hogsmeade and Hogwarts. Drinking butterbeer, which I’ve only read about again and agiain in the books was enlightening. The castle and shops, from inside and outside, were just how I had imagined them. Even the bathroom lived up to my expectations, being just like from the books and movies.
If you want to be around happy people, experience the magic of happiness, and live your own fairytales and dreams, then Disney World is the place for you. Maybe even stop by to Universal Studios, the second happiest place on earth. I know I was very happy in both places, living a fairytale, a dream, like no other, with everyone doing the same around me.
Can’t wait for October weekends!
On a usual weekend I will go out with my friends to our favorite bar. On the other night I work. At “our” bar we seem to always have a good time. The bar is enjoyable because I get to see my friends who go to different schools, while meeting new people. Unfortunately, the same thing every weekend gets boring and I am ready for a change of pace.
This weekend my first cousin is getting married and I am so happy for her. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in my family who I haven’t seen and for the first time being able to party with my family. My family knows how to have a good time and my cousin and I are pumped. Free drinks, free food, and music sounds like a good time to me.
The next weekend is my friend Rob’s birthday. He goes away to college at SUNY New Paltz. This college is about an hour and a half away from Staten Island but so worth the drive. He’s always trying to get me to come up but I usually work on either a Friday or Saturday night. Next weekend I am off of work and I have been talking with his roomate to make sure he will be around. I am going to suprise him on his birthday and I know we will have a great weekend. He will be very happy to see me and his fraternity and school are a great time. Also, I am really in the need of a little vacation, so it will be nice to be in a small town and have time to relax. He is one of my closest friends that I have not seen since August, so hanging out with him should be an enjoyable weekend.
Finally the last weekend in October should be the end of a great month. One of my favorite holidays of the year, Halloween. So many people go out on Halloween and you’re allowed to look like an idiot, slut, clown, or whoever you may want to be. On this weekend all of my friends already have a room in Atlantic City. We are staying in a cheap hotel but for $50 a night I cannot complain. There will be 6-8 of us guys and then a whole group of girls that we know are coming as well. So when it is time for us to go out we will be a large group and ready to go crazy.
Lately I have been doing a lot of school work and working a lot. I have saved my money and been doing what I have to do. Now it is time for the weekdays to pass quickly because I can’t wait for the weekend!
Black Male Initiative Conference
Friday, October 7, 2011 I attended the Black Male Initiative Conference at Hunter College. It is a date that I will never forget. I learned so much from just attending there and hearing people just talk about the achievement gap between black, Latinos and white. It all started out connecting more with my UMLA Brothers and it was interesting because this one particular brother of mine was talking to me about how much he loves fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3. My brother Christian is really quiet around all of us and never felt like we were his Brothers. It was a really nice experience talking to him bringing him in more and more into our brotherhood. I learned so much about him that day and it would be an honor to one day face him in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Besides the bonds that were created in the BMI conference, I also learned a lot from prominent figures that attended the BMI conference Such as Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Dr. . It was such a great day because it opened my eyes to how bad the achievement rates of Black and Latinos have become. After the key note speakers people were given the option of attending a particular workshop they felt interested in. I particularly went to the workshop about pursuing an MBA. In this workshop I met people such as Tarynn Hunter who’s great, great uncle was the founder of Hunter College. Tarynn had discussed with us how she ended up having an MBA. Tarynn and the other panel speakers had shown us that people no matter your ethnicity or background could end up in schools like Harvard and Yale for their MBA programs. I took all their words to heart because it told me, that even though I didn’t end up in an Ivy League school, I can pursue my MBA programs anywhere as long as I was willing to work hard for it. When I wanted to major in Architecture, I wanted to go to MIT for Grad School and I kept thinking how impossible that would be because of how I ended up in CUNY.
After the workshop I went up to Tarryn specifically and she told me “you’re doing fine!! Keep working hard and you will end up in a good place.” After she had told me that, she gave me her phone number which was an honored because I expected no more than an email. After I had left I felt proud of going to the BMI conference because I knew from there on that if I am true to myself, I would soon make it somewhere big.
Who makes me smile =)
I love to YouTube Russell Peters, his comedy films make me happy. Russell Peters was born in Canada. He performs mostly made up of observational comedy where he uses humor to poke fun at the subjects of race, class and culture, often using his own life experiences as well as impersonal of different cultural accents to illustrate his act.
I love his rich facial expressions plus the way he talks and these make his jokes never get old.
Here’s one of my favor is about immigrant parents they beat their kids which I experienced back in china.
Can you hear me?
I came across this article a while ago and I really wanted to share it with you all. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/21/science/21whal.html?_r=2
It is about a very lonely whale with no friend or family. She doesn’t belong to any tribe, pack or gang. She doesn’t have a lover and she probably never will…
She is a very unique baleen whale, singing at 52hz. While on average an baleen whale communicate only between 12 and 25hz. With her being double the average amount of hertz, there’s no way that she can be heard by other whales. As a result of her unique voice whenever she calls out to others, her calls remain unanswered, and each cry is ignored. In addition to all this, as times goes on, and the longer she remains unheard she becomes sadder and more frustrated; her notes become more desperate and goes deeper into despair. It makes me so sad to imagine this poor whale, massive in size but still invisible because she’s different.
But this show how much you need others in order to feel happy. If you are alone who will you talk to? We can’t just talk to ourselves, because that will just be weird. You will need someone that you want to share things with. More than just being surrounded by company, you need company that will understand you and on the same page as you. We value or friends because you get to feel a connection that you probably won’t feel with a random stranger that just walked past you.
I understand that everyone needs to have their alone time once in a while, but we can’t be happy being alone all the time.
Excessive Happiness = Suicide
As an old saying goes, “Joy surfeited turns to sorrow.” This semester, we are dealing with happiness in english class. When I was in China, I did write something about happiness. Nothing is in psychological term. Daniel Gilbert is definitely a great author, and he turns psychological discovery into a prose and into a beautiful article. Many of his idea resonate with me, especially after I take psychological class. It is generally accepted idea that people tend to think that they cannot handle the horrible situation. Once people is in the worse state or have gone through it, they know actually the thing is not as worse as they thought.
I thought honor psychology mid-term is extremely hard when I prepared for the mid-term last week. I do not feel happy at all because I am under great pressure and always question myself in the class and after the class. I never have two hours writing midterm in my life. I feel like that I wrote more than 10 pages in two hour mid-term. I thought two-hour writing would be terrible for me. However, I feel great release after test. Far more than that, I really enjoy the two-hours writing during the test which I didn’t know when i was in and before the test.
Under economic principle, people face trade-off everyday and need to trade to improve the life of whole soceity. My question is:” Can we trade happiness?” or ” Can we make other people happy?” 3 weeks ago in psychology class, Professor Locke played a carton in the class. It is a story about two carton charaters X and Y . Character X feel sad these days. Character Y, as X’s friend, want to do something to make him happy. Therefore, Y invents a device, which could make people smile and laugh when he feel down or happy. X tried on the device, and then start to smile and laugh most of times. After few hours, X feel tired of laughing and smiling. So he request Y to stop the device.Hoewver, Y think that the device is the only way to make X happy. In Y’s perspective, laughing and smiling is happiness. Few days later, X shows some negative symptoms, such as eyes bleeding, fatigue. He beg Y to stop the device. He was rejected. After few months, the device goes wrong. Then X will go back to his original life without being control to laugh and smile. I could still remember the last scene: X beg Y to fix the device so that he can laugh and smile all the times because he think laughing and smiling have already been a part of his life. It is weird and funny.
I didn’t dig in too much in psychology area. Instead, I kinda feel like that X will die soon because happiness is controlled by external device, but you inner heart.
