The road not taken

I would like to center my paper around the famous poem by Robert Frost titled, “The Road Not Taken.” This poem is a very powerful one which has immense meaning. It could be interpreted many different ways to mean many different things. The  obvious theme present in this literary work is the idea of choices. Choices are known to be life-changing. The path which you take, or the choices which you make, can alter your life and send it on a different track than the one it was on before. However, the theme I would like to explore is regret. This idea can be applied to the poem in a direct way. Time is linked to regret in that it only travels forward, whereas regrets are linked to the past. It is wasteful to spend your time regretting your decisions when there is nothing you can do about it. The “road not taken,” in this case, is the action that could have prevented many mistakes in one’s past. This is the action that one wishes they would have made in the past, but a contrary decision has forced them down another path in life. Every person has went through this, and everyone has decisions that they regret. Everyone thinks about how things could have been easier or better if they had made a different choice. Down the path, however, it is wrong to dwell on the past because there is no time machine that makes it possible for us to go back in time and do things differently. Because time only moves in the positive direction, decisions should be treated in the same manner. If there is something that you think you should have done differently, it is much better to move ahead and think of new decisions that you could make to better your situation. For this reason, I believe that “The Road Not Taken” is a perfect example for the central idea of my paper.

I would like my video to be a short silent film lasting between 3-5 mins. It will tell a story of 3 people taking 3 different roads. It will also show where the roads have took them and the problems they faced.

Well what can I say? I guess I’ll start with my dog search. I am looking for a bulldog for my boyfriend for his birthday but DAMN! They are expensive, 2500 for a dog. I have been dealing with scam after scam. It’s killing me! I want to get a dog from the shelter but they don’t have any kind of dogs he likes. I decided to look for boxers or shepards. I am a dog lover and any dog would make me happy but there is something about a bulldog or boxer puppy with a bow on it that would make my boyfriend very happy.

I found out that many dogs have been abused before in puppy mills. Which I find very disgusting. How can a person mass produce animals, dogs no less. They have one female who they have give birth after and after. My search for a bulldog will have to be cut short and hopefully I’ll find a dog, a good dog, in a shelter. I end with this: those who abuse animals deserve to idea horrible death!

Good mirrors are not cheap

Good mirrors are not cheap

We should not hate our reflectors
Or what it reflects
We should stop hating
That which it shows
But don’t let anyone see
Invisible
Look in your self
Your face
Under scrutiny
And all the faults you see
Turning
Into your self image
See your beauty
See the lies in the mirror
Destroy the reflector
Feel good
Become new

Also when you do this
Look around
People are happy
They all made their own mirrors
Showing us
Parading them
Happily

My favorite jeweler

The cool breezes, the beautiful architecture, the decorated sky, and the “Duomo” are all the striking elements that make a florentine evening. It is experience for all to have. I still reminisce about my time in Florence, sitting in a restaurant near the “Ponte Vecchio” with a perfect view of the river. The river was a pink and purple reflection of the luminous sky above. The off yellow color of the buildings and the roughed red color of the bricks complemented the flow of colors under the bridge in an almost fictitious way.

The Florentine collection by Paolo Costagli takes its influence from these florentine evenings. The amethyst and pink sapphire used in the jewelry accurately captures the vivid purples and pinks in the evening skies of Florence. The 18kt gold complements the gems much like the yellowish color of the florentine buildings. The collection allows you to wear the beauty of a florentine evening.

A dream, a deja vu, a family history

A weird title, I know. However, a good explanation will be given.

From my minimal knowledge of Freud, I know that he studied dreams. The study of dreams has always fascinated me. Our minds can imagine the craziest things and we are just along for the ride. I find how our dreams can help us solve dilemmas in our lives intriguing. The unconscious mind is force not to be taken as a minor component in our lives.

The scariest phenomena of dreams is deja vu. Deja vu is, as dictionary.com describes,”the illusion of having previously experienced something actually being encountered for the first time”. I guess to some it is an illusion while to others it is a reality. The mind is a powerful being who can say with absolute certainty that deja vu is actually an illusion. Perhaps I am just a bit bias because I experience deja vu fairly often or maybe because of the belief in the supernatural in my culture.

Russians are very superstitious people. Most grandmothers know how to read cards, palms and dreams. They say that the gift passes down to the most stubborn child. My great-great-grandmother was actually a fairly well known “gadalka”(russian equivalent to a psychic) in her region; my grandmother told me a story of one man in military. He was presumed dead by everyone, his wife needed to know if it was true. She asked the gadalka if he was alive; my great-great-grandmother asks to look at a ring of his. As she looks she tells the women that her husband is alive but missing a leg. In a years time, the man returns to his wife missing a leg. Back to my point, my grandmother has the ability to read cards, my father has feelings when bad things or good things will happen, much like a sixth sense, and I experience what my grandmother calls stupid premonitions.

Many believe these stories to be a way to swindle money out of people. I do agree that most are just con-artists but there has to be those who do know how to control their minds to make this happen.

The allegory of the cave

The allegory of the cave is an interesting idea proposed in book seven. The book attempts to explain an idea of education leading to a superior soul. A superior soul is one that receives knowledge through experiences. These experiences are explained by Plato in steps, steps in departure from the cave. While in the cave, the prisoner sees shadows as the realest thing possible. Then the prisoner is allowed to see the statues, he realizes that the statues that cause the statues are realer then the shadows. However, the shadows are still part of the prisoners reality. The prisoner is thrown out of the cave ; he is fascinated by the sun, the light that cause everything he sees. The prisoner sees that the statues were just mere copies of the true world around him. He understands that the statues are only replicas of everything in this world. Book seven states that this is a theoretical process of how knowledge builds the soul. The soul is a primitive idea without knowledge.
