In my Digital essay I’m trying to emphasize that maintaining the innocence of a child can be a good thing. Collins tries to argue that maintaining this innocence can actually lead to their ignorance. My counter argument is of course places like the Bronx. The Bronx is full of kids which one may say have been deprived of their innocence, and as a result these kids would go out into the streets thinking they’re tough, wanting to fight and call other kids names that are not appropriate for little kids. Maintaining their innocence may to some extent lead to their ignorance but it can make ones childhood real, and special. Wanting to change your childhood right away deprives anyone of all the opportunities and freedom children have.
In my Video I started out with enforcing how beautiful it is to maintain the innocence of a kid. I played a song which emphasizes fun times especially within a kid’s life. I later on go in to the poem and reinforce some ways in which the History teacher emphasizes the maintenance of their innocence. Finally I show what it would be like to deprive these fun happy times for children, what it would be like if that childhood wasn’t as special or real.

Innocense of a Child
I picked the poem History teacher by Billy Collins because as someone who comes from the Bronx I’ve seen that many children now a days have been deprived of their innocence. I would not say basically deprived but children now a day tend to know a lot of things i did not know when i was 7 or 8 years old. It is quite interesting seeing 8 year old kid cursing, calling each other “niggas.”
One way in which this happens, is that kids are exposed to so much at a young age. Unfortunately some of these things is out of their controls. Some are exposed to many things that happen inside their home, which is then incorporated to the way they behave and the way they talk.
I’m not sure what i want to do exactly in my video but i know that i want to do something in which i demonstrate how important and beautiful it is to maintain the innocence of a child. Although lying is not a good thing, it is something that might be necessary to make sure these kids find out adult things. Kids are very curious and i feel like if they are exposed to all these things they are not supposed to, then they would like to act on it, just like saying bad and inappropriate things.
Listening!!
If I hear her, does she hear herself. If she hears do I hear, does he hear, does he not. What if he says does she hear do I hear. What if I say do I hear what she hears and does he hear what she hears. What is time to her does she hear the tick and the tick hears her who hears me. What is going on?
What’s going on? Was my number one question besides, what is she saying? As well as “She sounds like my grandmother.” It was so interesting listening and reading what she was saying. Although I did not understand a single word she said It was really interesting, hearing her and just rambling on these random words. My favorite reading from Gertrude stein was Stanzas in Meditation: Stanza LXXXIII, when I first started reading I realized I did not understand a single word she had said. One of the things I found the most interesting was the way I would read the poem in my head. When I was reading this poem I felt like I was literally rapping in my head. I heard a beat, while reading this poetry. Eminem’s beat in “Im not Afraid” kept popping out and ringing inside my head. I also found that the most interesting thing was actually the fact that her words did not rhyme but for some reason you would hear many of them rhyme.

Although some of them did rhyme there were others that would kind of rhyme because the words within the line would make them rhyme. One thing that stuck out for me was “therefor.” I loved the way it was spelled because it just further emphasized the “ghettoness” of her poem. I f she was with us today especially in the Bronx, I could see her rhymes fitting in very well. When I first started reading some of her selections, I honestly could not imagine or hear her inside my voice. The name Gertrude Stein to me sounds like the name of a daffodil that loves literature. LOL. When I discovered more about who she was, I saw a male, and for some reason the picture in my head became more clear, and unfortunately it’s due to stereotypes, and not expecting women to really rap. It’s sad that although I feel sympathy towards that issue, I can’t completely get over some things society has built for our gender role. I thought it was really funny how everybody in class was getting annoyed by Stein’s writing; it was just too funny seeing the frustration in everybody else’s faces. I didn’t find her annoying at all. I honestly felt really deep into it because I really wanted to know what she was saying and I still do. What is it that inspires her to write these shenanigans, but what many have considered genius.
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3
Last night I went to the Midnight Release of Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the the second version of the game Marvel VS Capcom 3. But the game now has 12 characters and 8 new stages. Characters such as Vergil from Devil May Cry 3, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider…ETC. Ive been waiting for this game ever since it was announced during the summer. I never got the first so i was really excited for this. Aside from that it was also my first midnight release to a game. When I arrived with my friend Mark at 8:00PM we saw that there were already 2 people in front of us, and I was so surprised to see that there were people already in line waiting for the game. We had brought a beach chair because I had to Study for a sociolgy test we had to take the next day. I felt really embrassed when everybody kept talking about how I had brought a beach chair, it was like but “But why this Nigga (excuse the language) brought a chair though like thats mah head son.” I didnt care overall because I knew i wasnt gonna be standing there wasting my time for a game; i actually got some work done. I noticed that at 10 they opened the door and we started going in. I was really excited because i thought we were going to get the game right away, but we just had to go in to pay for the game to then wait until 12 to actually get the copy of the game.
I was really excited to go to the release because it was the first midnight release i had ever been to, and what made it especial was that there was going to be 4 new games coming out that same night; Saints Row, Assasins Creed: Revelations, Some new Halo game, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. There were so many peole by the time it was 9, and it was really cool talking to them about these different games that were going to come out. After i had gone in, i was number 5, so i was happy that were going to get the game early so we could go home and play right away, and its exactly what i did. As soon as i got my game i “dipped” home and put the game in my PS3. Unfortunately i had to wait 30 minutes because the game had to install itself on the PS3 System.
While i was waiting in such frustration, i realized that i could take a shower ot pass time and its what i did. After i had come back it was complete and i was jumping with excitement. As soon as the game started i played as Vergil; Dantes Brother, and while i was playing as him i realized that he was super amazing and i had to have him in my team. I was so obsessed with the game that i didnt notice that it was almsot 2AM so i turned it off with such dispoointment and went to sleep. From that experience I feel like i am definately going for others. It was super awesome, and i cant wait to go home and play as vergil again!!

Response Paper 5 Option 1
The movie Best is Show was quite an interesting movie to me. I thought at first when I watched it that it was nothing more than just a dog show movie. It did not really satisfy to me how it can be about a dog show, when the director kind of rushed the dog show itself in the movie. I noticed that they actually got to the dog show pretty far in the movie. Aside the director did not really go into the details of the actual show. At first I kept thinking that it was a bad move of the director, to actually make a movie about dogs and not actually focus a lot of attention into the show itself.
Eventually I came to realize that there was more to this movie that meets the eye. The movie later became famous to me for a different reason, and it wasn’t the show but the actual obsession of people. What this movie had was character development. This movie really emphasized the different kinds of obsession that people have towards their dogs. Dog shows to me seem kind of pointless and I thought that people were just there to show off their dogs. I also thought that people were all the same inn how they treated their dogs. This movie had something in common with all the dog owners, and it was that they love their dog. But the difference was that they appreciated each dog in a very unique and funny way. If it wasn’t one that just talked a lot about the breed, but there were ones who made them look like humans themselves, or actually treat them as if it was a child they had. Interesting enough was that with one of the couples it was so insane to actually see how they treat their dog as if it was a God, someone they had to please with toys, or apologizing and going to therapy because they engaged in sexual intercourse. I really enjoyed this movie. It definitely made me laugh to see the kind of people that were in this movie. This movie made me realize that it was the same thing we have been reading in class as well. This movie has loyalty and sacrifice written all over it. The Birth mark by Hawthorne is somewhat similar to this movie, and not in the concept of giving up your life for someone else, but praising other living beings that exist in their lives. In this case their Dogs. Georgiana was willing to do anything in order to ensure happiness for Aylmer. Aylmer was the dog in this sense. Georgiana would treat this one particular dog as if it was her life. A dog in which she is willing on giving up her whole being just to make sure that dog is satisfied, clean and ready for the next show.
Black Male Initiative Conference
Friday, October 7, 2011 I attended the Black Male Initiative Conference at Hunter College. It is a date that I will never forget. I learned so much from just attending there and hearing people just talk about the achievement gap between black, Latinos and white. It all started out connecting more with my UMLA Brothers and it was interesting because this one particular brother of mine was talking to me about how much he loves fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3. My brother Christian is really quiet around all of us and never felt like we were his Brothers. It was a really nice experience talking to him bringing him in more and more into our brotherhood. I learned so much about him that day and it would be an honor to one day face him in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Besides the bonds that were created in the BMI conference, I also learned a lot from prominent figures that attended the BMI conference Such as Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Dr. . It was such a great day because it opened my eyes to how bad the achievement rates of Black and Latinos have become. After the key note speakers people were given the option of attending a particular workshop they felt interested in. I particularly went to the workshop about pursuing an MBA. In this workshop I met people such as Tarynn Hunter who’s great, great uncle was the founder of Hunter College. Tarynn had discussed with us how she ended up having an MBA. Tarynn and the other panel speakers had shown us that people no matter your ethnicity or background could end up in schools like Harvard and Yale for their MBA programs. I took all their words to heart because it told me, that even though I didn’t end up in an Ivy League school, I can pursue my MBA programs anywhere as long as I was willing to work hard for it. When I wanted to major in Architecture, I wanted to go to MIT for Grad School and I kept thinking how impossible that would be because of how I ended up in CUNY.
After the workshop I went up to Tarryn specifically and she told me “you’re doing fine!! Keep working hard and you will end up in a good place.” After she had told me that, she gave me her phone number which was an honored because I expected no more than an email. After I had left I felt proud of going to the BMI conference because I knew from there on that if I am true to myself, I would soon make it somewhere big.
Apprehension
So as I was reading through Freud’s reading I felt like I couldn’t stay focus on it and so I kept on reading to see if I can eventually figure out what it might be about, and so I did but then I came upon a quote which kind of caught my attention, and it wasn’t just because I didn’t get what apprehension meant but also the idea behind it and how I interpreted this quote. “Fright, fear, apprehension are incorrectly use as synonymous expressions: in their relation to danger they admit of quite clear distinction. Apprehension {Angst) denotes a certain condition as of expectation of danger and preparation for it, even though it be an unknown one; fear {Furchi) requires a definite object of which one is afraid; fright (Schreck) is the name of the condition to which one is reduced if one encounters a danger without being prepared for it; it lays stress on the element of surprise. In my opinion apprehension cannot produce a traumatic neurosis; in apprehension there is something which protects against fright and therefore against the fright-neurosis. We shall return later to this dictum.”
When I saw this quote I honestly didn’t understand what was so important about this, and I also did not know what apprehension was, (could have added it to the lexicon) I also started to realize how apprehension is so much different, its use to stand up to something that has been making you afraid. I saw in Olgi’s Blog post and I saw that he said he was still kind of scared of going to the doctors and how it’s a fear that stays within him while this quote shows the opposite and how you face your fears through this apprehension. Once my friend Mark was hanging out with some of his pals and he wanted to confront this bully that had been bothering him the whole school year. He planned on jumping him with his friends because he wanted revenge. Eddie soon began to realize that what he was doing was wrong and that he shouldn’t be the karma that would come back to him but it was too late since he had already punched him and beat him up. He later learned that he would try to learn how to fight so he would be able to defend himself but he told me that “I will not be the karma for him, because I’m just being a hypocrite by doing the same.” His story relates to this whole idea of apprehension doesn’t have to be negative it can be interpreted in many different ways.
Colon cancer symptoms
Colon cancer signs and symptoms are not apparent at its early stages.
But routine examinations can detect unknown cancerous cells and, if detected early enough, can save lives. Still, men and women who have surpassed their early years are more likely to die from colon cancer. Ninety percent of colon cancer deaths occur in men and women who are over the age of 50, and most cancerous cells start of as adenomas cells.
Adenomas cells, commonly known as polyps, grow slowly in the inner walls of the colon or rectum and is the direct result of rapidly growing cells that creates mass tissue and, eventually, takes on the form of a benign or malignant tumor. Adenomas are noncancerous but these cells have the potential to become cancerous or malignant.
And for the 150,000 colon cancer cases that spread across the United States each year and the 52,000 annual deaths that arise symptoms of colon cancer from this disease, the American Cancer Society says the cancer is easily traceable in exams and curable if tests are taken before colon cancer signs and symptoms show up.
Since colon cancer signs and symptoms are not always present, so a colonoscopy or an enema are the most common treatments. Unseen signs and symptoms are never a clear indication that cancer doesn’t exist, but if you were experiencing signs you may encounter unhealthy weight loss, bleeding in stool, pain during bowel movements, changes in bowel habits, stomach pain or fatigue. And although they sometimes blur in its meaning, a sign is objective evidence that can be traced such as bleeding, vomiting and weight loss, while symptoms are subjective in nature and immeasurable. Some symptoms can include fatigue and abdominal pain.
So why are so many men and women dying from a disease that is curable?
Denial, embarrassment and misinformation are the main reasons colon cancer is the third largest cause of cancer deaths for men and the fourth in women. No one talks about what hides in the inner walls of their intestines. It’s no conversation starter. And the pure mention of “cancer” can silence a room of roaming minds as society has been led to believe that cancer is a death sentence.
It’s what we do no talk about that is killing us.
Talk to a physician. Schedule an exam. There are several methods for removing cancerous cells within the colon or rectum.
Colonoscopy
Recommended to be done every 10 years after the age of 50, colonoscopy is a procedure that removes leftover stool that can block up the colon and bowel movements. This test detects and removes polyps in the colon.
Advantages: Test allows doctor to view the entire colon and remove polyps or abnormal tissue. The colon does not have to be cleanses before initial screening.
Disadvantages: Though sensitive, the test does not detect small polyps. colon cancer symptoms in women Test can also lead to tearing of the inner colon walls and bleeding. Sedation is also needed for this procedure.
Barium Enema
Inserting barium through the rectum, into the colon for x-ray screening of the large intestine is a procedure that should be taken every five years. The barium is a liquid that projects images of the colon and rectum using x-rays. The down side is that this test has the tendency to miss polyps that are greater that a centimeter long.
Advantages: This test also allows physicians to view the entire colon. Sedation is not needed for this test and, unlike the colonoscopy, there are minimal complications.
Disadvantages: Test can lead to false-positive results and additional testing becomes necessary. The colon must be cleansed before screening.
Fecal Blood Test
A Fecal blood test is used to detect blood in the stool. The sample can be collected at home and brought to a lab.
Advantages: This test costs less than most of the other screening test. Samples can be collected at home and the colon does not have to be cleansed before the screening.
Disadvantages: The test does not detect most polys in the colon. Dietary restrictions may be suggested days before screening.
Colon cancer signs and symptoms are not found until years after cells symptoms of colon cancer in women begin growing abnormally in the body. This unexpected symptoms claim the lives of 52,000 each year so various test have been implemented over the years to reduce deaths and birth hope for carriers of colon cancer
Description: It’s hard to imagine 52,000 people dying because of failed hospital visits. How valuable is your life? Is it worth saving? Ninety percent of colon cancer victims didn’t think so…
