Project

I created a video version of the Art of Response by Audre Lorde. I was confused about what i should do to make a movie i was going to just use clips and make it but I didn’t even know what i would need for the clip or would they even have it. So instead i drew out most of it, which is why it looks so funky. I called it the magic mirror because i go the idea off of snow white the the magic mirror which will give you the answer of any question. But instead of one answer I decided to show multiple answers in rapid session, which shows the different response people could have or make.

The Innocence of Children

In my Digital essay I’m trying to emphasize that maintaining the innocence of a child can be a good thing. Collins tries to argue that maintaining this innocence can actually lead to their ignorance. My counter argument is of course places like the Bronx. The Bronx is full of kids which one may say have been deprived of their innocence, and as a result these kids would go out into the streets thinking they’re tough, wanting to fight and call other kids names that are not appropriate for little kids. Maintaining their innocence may to some extent lead to their ignorance but it can make ones childhood real, and special. Wanting to change your childhood right away deprives anyone of all the opportunities and freedom children have.
In my Video I started out with enforcing how beautiful it is to maintain the innocence of a kid. I played a song which emphasizes fun times especially within a kid’s life. I later on go in to the poem and reinforce some ways in which the History teacher emphasizes the maintenance of their innocence. Finally I show what it would be like to deprive these fun happy times for children, what it would be like if that childhood wasn’t as special or real.

Digital Essay–Lonely Planet

This video is inspired by the poem ” When You Are Old” from poet Yeats. When I first time approached to Yeats’ love story, I felt sad about this great poet. He proposed for several times to Maud throughout his life. The last time he proposed was at age 52. When I worked on this video and talked of the story between Yeats and his beloved Maud, my friends felt astonished by the story. At the same time, they talked about what the genuine love is? How could it be possible for a person who was rejected for several times and still had the courage to propose when he/she was old?  What about if there is one who is willing to wait for you for few decades? Thinking about the fact today, the poet’s story really provokes some thoughts of what the true love is like. The girl who acted as Maud said, Maud could be the happiness woman in the world, but she did not become a happy woman because of wrong choices. If the actress were in the position, she definitely would accept at least last proposal from the poet. By the end, the poem and the video want to suggest people to distinguish who is really good to you and who only love your beauty and something external. This video, titled “Lonely Planet”, intends to create a sense of loneliness and sadness. Because the story applies to all people, therefore, both actors in the film did not show their face and most of scene I made it vague. Also for the song Gymnopédies, I really enjoy the melody. It is deliberate, but mild, against the harmony, creating a tranquil, sad effect that matches the theme of my film.
