This is a video about the fall of “Iron Curtain”, a term described by British Prime minister; Winston Churchill. In the early 1990s, the fall of Soviet Union Empire has startled people from all over the world. The collapse of Soviet Empire was an important historical event during the early 1990s to the United States, because it symbolized the end of the Cold War. During the Cold War, the United States tried and used many methods to help the countries in Europe to prevent the spread of communism . After the collapse of Soviet Empire, it was a big relief for the Americans.

I appreciate your comment Yana.
From your comment, I started to think about the consequences done by the collapse of Soviet Empire to those new countries. Like you mentioned, you are from Belarus, and you had probably heard from your relatives talking about the collapse of Soviet Empire in 1991 a lot. I have to agree with you that those new countries were struggling to run their countries due to the heavy reliance on former government.
Since you are from Belarus, in your opinion, do you feel any differences compared to your living style in Belarus and in America?
There are contradictory opinions about the collapse of the Soviet Union among the citizens of that huge former country. I honestly support the openness, freedom ideas, and capitalism that started in the new republics ( I am from Belarus ), but I should admit, that to some extent there was no strategic plan how the government of the new countries will operate, the economy was heading downhill, and the people had their minds set up in a way that the government will take care of them for the rest of their lives. For instance, almost all the citizens were provided with their accommodation for free, they had a unlimited health insurance coverage, education and numerous social benefits were given to everyone equally. It was a big step for the old generation to get used to the new set of rules, that were basically pretty vague. The absence of a strong governmental policy resulted in bureaucracy, occurrence of criminal gangs (mafia) that controlled the whole economy in Russia particularly. One could feel danger and tension getting in Russia instantly back in the 1990s.
