Bill Clinton Signs NAFTA (1993)

Bill Clinton signed into the North America Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico on December 8, 1993. It is hard to evaluate the pros and cons of NAFTA. What’s interesting about this agreement for me is that countries which have different cultures and sizes of economic achieved an economic integration.

  1. An important event that changed the the among United States, Mexico and Canada.I just read the Article in NYTimes Published on November 14, 1993 Titled “Nafta’s True Importance” (http://www.nytimes.com/1993/11/14/opinion/nafta-s-true-importance.html). I found this post so motivating that I went through past and studied the pros and cons of NAFTA.

The continued strength of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) markets has been one of the brightest spots for U.S. farmers, agricultural exporters, and the industries that support them. Together, our NAFTA partners, Canada and Mexico, purchased $18.2 million worth of agricultural products or 29.6 percent of total U.S. agricultural exports in 2004, up from 28.9 percent in 2003 and 20.8 percent in 1993.

The Magazine AgExporter had a whole issue on NAFTA which illustrated NAFTA benefits after 10 years. If anyone interested in reading that Issue, the link is- http://www.fas.usda.gov/info/agexporter/2004/January/January%202004.html.

Free Trade is good for everyone. I don’t understand why anyone would oppose it in the first place. From a basic economics perspective everyone benefits from specialization and trading.

I agree with Juan. From taking a number of economy and business classes, I believe that free trade is the way to go.

As a person who was born in Mexico, I think that North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was one of the best decision that the governments of USA, Canada and Mexico made. This agreement have improve the economy on these nations. In my case if I want to buy mexican products, I don’t have to go to Mexico, because now I can find them here in this country thanks to this NAFTA
