Los Angeles riots were sparked on April 29, 1992, when a jury acquitted four Los Angeles Police officers accused in the videotaped beating of African American motorist Rodney King following a high-speed pursuit. Thousands of people in the Los Angeles area rioted over the six days following the verdict. At that time, similar, smaller riots and anti-police actions took place in other locations in the United States and Canada. Widespread assault, arson, looting, and murder occurred, and property damages topped roughly $1 billion. In all, 53 people died during the riots and thousands more were injured.
These riots show the significance of law enforcement and how discrimination can lead to more than just injustice but death. These people had seriously lost their minds as you can see this clip shows human beings behaving as animals.
I agree, although the civil rights movement has ended. racism and discrimination to a certain extent continues to exist. There is a lot more to do inorder to achieve equality. Nevertheless, the election of President Obama portrays how anything is possible in the USA
This event gave a big impact on US justice, that it forced court to make fair decisions regardless one’s race.I agree with Jing that so many innocent people were died or injured. That was horrible. Also,as I know about 2,280 stores were planned looted and destructed.
I really liked this event in history because it displays how passionate and brave people were against injustice. I feel like now, people are more hesitant to start a riot or unite against injustice. I think we are much more afraid of the law now, than people back in the 90’s.
Police brutality has existed for a long time in the U.S. society. 1992 LA riots is another protest for black people to fight against police brutality. Its direct cause is four police officers acquitted for 1991 Radney King beating.
The riots show racism is truely existent in the U.S. society. Different ethnic groups, such as white, black, Asian and Hispanic are still probably too seperate, and it also reflects unqual society.
However, regardless of the cause, many innocent people are affected eventually. they may be assaulted and looters’ sacking businesses.
