Rodney King Beating (March 3, 1991)

This footage is from YouTube. It showes that African-American King is lying on the ground surrounded by police officers, who are repeatedly striking him with their batons.

The original creator named George Holiday videotaped it from a distance. His footage caused a media sensation and raised tensions between the black community and the Los Angeles Police Department. It offered a strong evidence of police brutality over King.

The four police officers were acquitted for the beating. The police brutality and court ruling showed the existence of racial discrimination and social inequality. The result triggered the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and it was also expanded in other locations in the U.S. Two police officers were found guilty and the other two were acquitted after the riots.

It makes me feel bad! Even though we are living in a civilized society, such situations still exist. Not only in the past ,but still right now.

And racism will never come to an end. Its sad how after so many years of prejudice society has not learned how to be more open minded, most especially professionals like the police.

This video represents the presence of racial discrimination in the American society. Here, the police officers bring their personal emotion or fillings to punish criminals, but the officers are only responsible to bring the criminals in front of justice. They also ignore the human rights. I think police officers have to be more responsible to their jobs, and they have to understand that they are not the judge.

I have never seen the video of this event before! It’s horrifying! How do people act in that way? It saddens me to be a part of the Caucasian race while there are white people who are capable of this.
