I found this video on youtube.com, it was submitted by taozhuo. This was a BBC new cast on what was happening at the time. The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, also known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 4th Incident, leaving (according to Chinese authorities) between 400 and 800 civilians dead, and between 7,000 and 10,000 injured. An initial report from local hospitals put the number at around 2,000 dead.
The senseless killing of about 2,000 people happened that day and all they wanted to do was mourn the death of Hu Yaobang a pro-democracy and anti-corruption official. This lasted about 15 days and what is remarkable, that with all the footage taken, there is nothing to show the violence at the square itself, everything that is on print or on video where taken in surrounding streets of Tiananmen square.
To be honest this did not affect me simply because I was kid and enjoying life, but reading about it now it amazes me how evil and ill will people, government and so on truly are.
From the very little I have learned about the incident at Tianamen Square and the comments above, it is truly a disgrace when human life is valued as nothing more than mere objects. And sadly, incidents of similar proportion continue to exist in different forms. The fact that the government to this day does not acknowledge the incidents at the Square and has it banned from textbooks is indeed depressing. The greed for power by people of various positions is inevitably the lead cause of such atrocities.
It is sad that to this day, the Chinese government refuse to acknowledge the events that took place that day. Chinese history books and media do a wonderful job of keeping its population ignorant of these protests.
These images show how the dreams of many young people are shattered by a totalitarian government, and they also inspire students around the world to stand for what they believe.
I heard about this event from my dad because it has never been in Chinese textbook. The gov. tried to covered it up.
What I most disturbing about this event is that Google is currently censoring there search engines in China to prevent people in China to view this information. Google should reconsider globalizing in China, if they are forced to censorship.
i am a Chinese. And I was shocked by this event because I didn’t know this happen when I was in China. There was nothing about Tiananmen Square Protest in China.
