Wright Brothers Soar

Beyond what most minds could imagine, in 1903 the Wright Brothers did what was thought of in the past as impossible. Orville and Wilbur Wright launched the first successful flight via airplane in 1903. Although the planes at that time may not have the same power of those of today, the ideas and concepts used by the Wright Brothers allowed for progressive and innovative ideas on travel to this present day decreasing travel time that would usually take longer on feet.

I agree with Thomas. The Wright Brothers had numerous failures in the flying machines. But it does indeed lay the foundation for the airline industry today.

Although this picture well represents an important scene in the history of flight, it doesn’t portray the effect it had on the society at the time. We may question how the brothers and their ideas were viewed before and after their attempts.

  3. Thomas says:

This picture does not tell us about the failures and lessons the brothers learned in building the first powered aircraft. It also does not tell us just how far the brothers came in their innovation (they started with gliders that were flown like kites and slowly added larger wings, steering etc..). We also do not have a sense of all the criticism the brothers were subject too nor do we have a sense of who the skeptics were.

This is a very important moment in history, in which lays the foundation of flight.
With the production of airplanes it decreases the time of travel in long distances. This leads to globalisation and cultural diffusion of ideas. Also, planes were later used in war, which was very important in WWI and WWII.
