This clip is segment of short film called " City of God " from 1950's. A gold rush is a period of feverish migration of workers into the area of dramatic discovery of gold. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia,Canada and the United States. The gold rush started in Alaska in 1898. This is important event in history as it many of the people rich, it was like " free for all". There were also some deadly incidents occured during the gold rush. The Palm Sunday avalanche was one of the most widely reported events of the gold rush.
The controversy of gold rush was many of US gold mines are located on public land, but the mining companies pay no royalties to the US government. Gold mines operate under the General Mining Act of 1872, which permits mineral mining on public land without payment of royalties. Fighting reforms to have the gold mining industry pay royalties, the local community commission in Elks County, Nevada says that royalties would force mining companies to cut jobs and move elsewhere. This royalty issues rose during gold rush in US.
I am just quite curious about what caused the gold rush at the time?
Even though this clip seems very old and might portray the period it covers, it still has the effect of being compiled by a person that wasn’t there at the time. So it to has its limitations.
