Roosevelt Corollary

The Roosevelt Corollary was an additional policy to Monroe Doctrine by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904. It showed that U.S. have the right to exercise “an international police power”in the Western Hemisphere against European intervention. The Roosevelt administration encouraged American banks to invest into Dominican Republic, Cuba and Costa Rica, and he believed economic control was the best way to spread American values. And this policy influenced economy and politics of these small countries a lot.

  1. Barry says:

The document lacks a friendly tone… Countries should want to interact with these colonies in friendlier manners, rather than worrying about policing them or taking them over politically.

  2. Alfaro says:

In a world in which mutual cooperation is preached all the time, powerful nations should treat less powerful ones within a frame of mutual respect and not as their colonies.

  3. Olympi Mansher says:

I like the document and respect its origins. Yet, its only shortfall is that it isnt combined with the Monroe Doctrine to give a complete picture oof the event and policies implemented.

  4. Yan says:

During Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency,he greatly increased US involvement with outside nations. In my opinion, I think imperialism provided more benefit than harm to the colonies. Whether colonialism has done more benefit than harm to the colonies is still a very controversial topic to today’s historical topic.
