In 1906 the Pure Food and Drug Act was passed. It required inspection of meat and drugs such as alcohol, cocaine and heorine in the United States. Before this Act people didn’t know what was in their meat or the conditions in which it was made in. Drugs were not labeled correctly and contained misleading information. These problems were exposed from the help of Upton Sinclair and Samuel Hopkins. Resulting from this act, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was formed and the sale of patent medicines containing opiates decreased by 33%.

I completely agree with the implementation of the food and drug act. It has continued thought out to present time.
I think that some of the inspections need to be re-examined to have new and better ways of inspecting our food, also I think that better research need to be implemented on the pharmaceutical industry.
The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was very effective for that time, and the positive affect of this Act is still continued. The purpose of this Act is great. What do you think about the implementation of this in the real life? Is that ok or should be more modified or implemented.
Indeed, this Act emphasizes on regulation about our daily health, as well as allows us to keep on track on the products we are going to consume daily. In spite of having this Act, there are still ambiguities on the accuracy of the statements written on the products that we are about to consume. Due to our limited knowledges and limited actions to double check on the products, some corporations often make false statement on their products to compete in the industry.
I would love to see a research on the percentage of many corporations involved in making false statements after this act has been passed in 1906.
One questions raised from the document, is whos work was more influential for the passing of the Fodo and Drug Act of 1906? Upton Sinclair or Samuel Hopkins?
It was a pretty helpful Act that made people aware of the condition of their food and drug and helped them made good choice of their necessaries. Even though it made the consumption rate decreased, it was still a good act. And what do you think are the good effects to now the Act making now?Thank you.
