As this map shown, it connected most states on the continent. what I want to express is that, the railroad constuction opened a national market for businesses during the Second Industrial Revolution. In other words, it formed the foundation of our mature economy.
Building Panama Canal in 1906
This image was captured in 1906. It shows the workers were building the Panama Canal which was launched by the United States in the second effort. It is an important picture because over 5000 deaths occurred in order to open the canal; and, the Panama Canal, which joins the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, became a main conduit for the international trade of the United States at that time period.

“Axis of Evil”
“Axis of evil” is a term that used by the former President George W. Bush in his State of the Union Address on January 29, 2002, he accused Iran, Iraq and North Korea of helping terrorism and developing weapons of mass destruction which would potentially threat the safety of the United States. Thus, he named the three countries as the “axis of evil.”

Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s
The most important change in the 1960s must be the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement started in the early 1940s; however, its important milestone was established in the 1960s. Martin Luther King was one of the major civil rights leaders in the period of 1960s. On August 23, 1963, Martin Luther King addressed a famous speech called “I Have a Dream” which aroused all attentions from the public and the government toward civil rights. “I have a dream that one day [in]this nation… all men are created equal…I have a dream that my children will one day … not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…”
Martin Luther King was getting closer to his dream after his speech. In July 2, 1964, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law, which prohibits discrimination of all kinds based on race, color, religion, or national origin in school, employment, institutions……etc. The Civil Rights Act was significant in the 1960s because it overruled the Jim Crow laws, which supported “separate but equal ” status for black Americans since 1876, and set up new equal standards that influence the life of Americans all along.

The Iraq War
This image is from Dear Kitty. Some Blog. It explains why President George W. Bush opened a war with Iraq in 2003 and indicates the U.S is mainly going for oil profits.
I think this image is important because the Iraq war has lasted for so many years, and it still hasn’t ended yet. More than 4300 American died in this war and over $700 billion of American money are spent on this war. why should we seek for other’s unsure profit but create an immense cost to ourselves. The cost of lives is always unmeasurable!
