The World Wide Web
This is a video of Sir Tim Berners-Lee at a conference in the Hilton at Kuala Lumpur, discussing the advent and instant popularity of the World Wide Web. It appears this video was taken in 2007, but it refers back to Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s inventing of the WWW in 1989.
I don’t believe it is necessary to explain why the World Wide Web is important to the world as we know it. The WWW made information universally accessible, allowed information sharing, and created an eventual expansion of communication.

Inauguration of Nelson Mandela as South Africa president
Nelson Mandela is the Nobel peace price recipient in 1991 and the first democratically elected president of South Africa in 1994; a country a country that was ruled for centuries by white minorities .He spent over twenty five years of his life behind bars , and whose only crime was of being black and a human rights advocate during the apartheid era.During the period, the basic rights such as : the right to vote were denied to the native South Africans while the United States of America, a nation that proclaimed itself as the defender of human rights looked the other way.Mandela’s inauguration day was a source of inspiration and pride to millions of youth throughout the African continent. It showed us(the youth) that an African can thrive in a western dominated world if he or she got educated.

L.A.Riots of 1992
I feel that this represents an important part of history. It is important because for the first time an incident based on rasicm and the abuse of authority was made available to the public and it showed how the LAPD poorly handled the situation by brutally beating a man. The file is showing the aftermath of a riot that began after police officers were acquitted in the caught on camera beating Rodney King. Rodney King is also shown speaking about peace and unity. Footage of the riot is shown along with the arrival of the national guards. This video includes a CNN report and live footage. Greg LaMotte is reporting on CNN live from L.A. May 01,1992. The video was posted on YouTube by Daniel J B Mitchell on September 29th, 2007. He is listed as being a 67 year old professor who joined YouTube in 2006

The Summer Olympics Games are opened in Atlanta, Geogia by U.S. President Bill Clinton. The games are positively known for the achievements of American track and field athlete Michael Johnson, who won both the 200 and 400 meter races, setting a new World Record in the 200, and for the victory of the American women’s gymnastics team. The Power of Dream, performed by Celine Dion, at Atlanta GA in Summer Olympics Games, 1996

Earthquake in Turkey (1999)
On August 17th, 1999 Turkey was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4. It lasted for 45 seconds and killed over 17,000 people. This is an important event because it was the strongest earthquake to ever hit Turkey and under Bill Clinton’s presidential leadership, help arrived to Turkey on August 18th; exactly one day after the catastrophe. The following video illustrates the aftermath of the devasting earthquake and the effects it had on the residents.

Tianamen Square Protest 1989
I found this video on youtube.com, it was submitted by taozhuo. This was a BBC new cast on what was happening at the time. The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, also known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 4th Incident, leaving (according to Chinese authorities) between 400 and 800 civilians dead, and between 7,000 and 10,000 injured. An initial report from local hospitals put the number at around 2,000 dead.
The senseless killing of about 2,000 people happened that day and all they wanted to do was mourn the death of Hu Yaobang a pro-democracy and anti-corruption official. This lasted about 15 days and what is remarkable, that with all the footage taken, there is nothing to show the violence at the square itself, everything that is on print or on video where taken in surrounding streets of Tiananmen square.
To be honest this did not affect me simply because I was kid and enjoying life, but reading about it now it amazes me how evil and ill will people, government and so on truly are.

Health Care Reform Deja Vu
1993: Bill Clinton assigns Hillary to figure out how to reform health care. She comes up with a plan that gets everyone on to some kind of private plan, no mention of a public option. The public revolts against her and I got the feeling it was much because the public felt she overstepped her boundaries as a first lady, but that would be just my interpretation. She was treated horrifically by Republicans – just horribly – and everyone abandoned the idea. It was so ridiculous that the guy that ran against Hillary Clinton for Senate the first time around – about 8 years later – actually used it as his main campaign slogan – something like “and you know how she screwed up that health care plan”.
Well you know what? In 2005, Congress passed prescription coverage for Medicare beneficiaries without funding it. But the interesting part about that plan? It was the EXACT model that Hillary Clinton came up with for the entire health care system in 1993. Why did nobody notice? Probably because nobody was still in the news that could have made the connection between the two. I receive Medicare, so I realized how it was working and remembered it sounded exactly like the 1993 Clinton plan.
This is Clinton’s speech on health care on September 22, 1993, 8 months into his first year of office:

Rodney King Beating (March 3, 1991)
This footage is from YouTube. It showes that African-American King is lying on the ground surrounded by police officers, who are repeatedly striking him with their batons.
The original creator named George Holiday videotaped it from a distance. His footage caused a media sensation and raised tensions between the black community and the Los Angeles Police Department. It offered a strong evidence of police brutality over King.
The four police officers were acquitted for the beating. The police brutality and court ruling showed the existence of racial discrimination and social inequality. The result triggered the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and it was also expanded in other locations in the U.S. Two police officers were found guilty and the other two were acquitted after the riots.

Dolly The Sheep
The video is from Discovery News in 1997, in which the video displays Dolly the sheep who became the first animal to be successfully cloned. The video goes further in to detail as to how the cloning process occurs and issues in stem cell.
This is a Important Historical moment because it is a drastic advancement in technology. However, the cloning raises issues in ethics, morals and religion.

1998 East Africa bomb attacks
In 1998 there were a few truck bomb attacks at US Embassies in major cities of East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya and Nairobi) where hundreds of people were killed.
The 9/11 WTC attack wasn’t the first time Al Quaeda attacked us. People seem to forget there were few bomb attacks before 9/11/2001.
On youtube, I found a short documentary video on bombing of the US Embassy in Nairobi.
