Subprime Mortage Crisis
This image is from NYTimes.com
On April 2007, Subprime mortgage company went into bankruptcy with trillions dollars of consumer’s credit debt in mortgage program. It caused huge financial crisis of 2008 not only in U.S.A, as much as in global market.
This crisis brough the consecutive collapses of all kinds of financial companies such as banks, funds, insurance companies and other businesses. It affect high inflation of all goods, unstability of the price, high unemployment, and the decrease of productive capacity and a downfall of real estate market. The government economy also shrank up from financial damage and moreover, the entire world seemed to become a great depression as a whole.

The Arizona Immigration law
This image is from L.A.Times. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a bill on illegal immigration into a law on April 23,2010. It allows police officers to make arrests and check individual status if they think a person is suspicious. This law leads a lot of protests and debate from the country as a whole.
This image is important because it has been the most strict immigrantion reform in the history. In some aspects, this law violates citizens’ civil rights, especially Hispanics’ rights, and discriminates against them. And the government should consider overall immigrants benefit when it is in a federal level. Norman Borlaug: He Fed The World
This picture is taken from the Dallas Observer News Blog. It’s a rather famous autographed picture of Norman from his younger days working/researching in the fields. <borlaug-young.gif> or <http://www.agbioworld.org/images/borlaug-young.gif>
The man in the picture, the agricultural scientist Dr. Norman Borlaug, died on September 13, 2009 at the age of 95. It was Dr. Borlaug’s work in creating high-yield crop varieties and improving agriculture in the Third World–in villages across Mexico, India, Africa and countless others–that brought him the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal, and the Padma Vibhusham, India’s second highest civilian honor.
He spent his life fighting famine in developing nations. He is often referred to as the father of the “green revolution” and credited with saving 1 billion lives from famine. His contributions, though forgotten (or often not even realized) in developed nations, will continue to have ever-lasting effects for lifetimes to come all over the world; particularly in such developing nations which comprise South Asia.

Gay marriage
This photo was taken at midnight of May 17, 2004 in Massachusetts. Marcia Hams(with yellow sweater) and her marriage parter Susan Shepherd( with the black jacket) were the first same-sex couple who start the application for their same-sex marriage license. After completeing the application, they were shaking hands with City Clerk D. Margaret Drury in at Cambridge City Hall.
This event is very important for because it means United States starts to accept the same-sex marriage legally.
This photo was taken by Steven Senne and was published on Associated Press.

9/11 Lighting Ceremony
Since, the 9/11 attack in 2001, New York City has commemorated the victims, firemen and police officers who past away during the onset. The tribute lights are lite on September 11 every year since 2002, which was set to continue to 2008, however, in 2009 it has been comfirmed that the lighting ceremony has been extended through the tenth anniversary in 2011.
The image is important because it reminds us of the attack that occurred in 2001 and the obstacle we have overcome. It displays the strength of everyone cooperating together and helping each other in a time of need.

The Iraq War
This image is from Dear Kitty. Some Blog. It explains why President George W. Bush opened a war with Iraq in 2003 and indicates the U.S is mainly going for oil profits.
I think this image is important because the Iraq war has lasted for so many years, and it still hasn’t ended yet. More than 4300 American died in this war and over $700 billion of American money are spent on this war. why should we seek for other’s unsure profit but create an immense cost to ourselves. The cost of lives is always unmeasurable!

Miracle on Hudson
This picture was taken by Eric Thayer and was published on MSNBC on January 15, 2009. The plane struck a flock of birds during takeoff at LaGuardia Airport and it caused an immediate loss of thrust from both engines. However, the pilot managed to land the plane safely on the water. This miracle is important because all the passengers survived. There were 155 passengers on board that day.
Obama’s Inauguration
This picture was taken from the Washington Post. It shows President Barak Obama being inaugurated as the 44th president of The United States. It took place on January 20, 2009, adn to his left is his wife Michelle Obama.
This is an important picture since it depicts a milestone in the US’s political and racial history. From a country that discriminated no less than 50 years ago today we have a minority as our president. An achievement every country should strive for.
