Although all immigrants struggled as minorities in America, Asians were federally targeted the most. They considered foreign, and oriental and it was easy to target them. The Chinese Exclusion Act epitomized America as a nation’s constant willingness to blame others in times of need. America’s economy plunged during the Reconstruction period after the Civil War (Tian, Kelly). Additionally exemplifying America’s need to blame others is the Japanese Exclusion Act where Americans submitted to their fear of the foreign by rounding them up.
