After taking some time to consider what would be the best approach to solving an issue of this sort, I came up with a different take on the traditional loft bed. To best describe it the solution would combine elements of a loft bed and a room divider, in order to truly create the illusion of having your own space uninterrupted by others.
I presented the idea to one of my closest friends because I wanted to hear a very straightforward and blunt answer and she herself has experienced the struggles of lacking privacy and your own space.
Her biggest positive reactions were regarding the aesthetics of the solution, as room dividers are notorious for looking cluttered and displeasing to the eyes; while loft beds can be considered childish or immature. She felt the look of my sketch showed promise to create a sleek design that actually could create solid boundaries without looking chaotic; an element I felt was very important.
On the flip side however, she brought up two points of potential conflict. That would be the actual construction and the issue of sound. I was reminded that not all rooms and spaces are structured in a manner in which this idea would fit and work properly. There was also the fact that noise cancellation and reduction, a huge problem in my initial issue, was not fully addressed or solved with my idea.
Nice idea and these “S” shaped designs exist so do check them out!
