Summary
For international reporting, I would like to cover Guyana. As a person of Guyanese descent, I don't know much about my background and would like to explore and appreciate it more. Since I don't live in a neighborhood that has a heavy Guyanaese presence I would like to explore areas that do such as Richmond Hill and see how the culture translate in NYC. I also think that Guyana is a place that many people don't know about especially outside of NYC and I would like to educate outsiders about the culture. I think Guyana is an exciting place because although it is located in Latin America it is an English-speaking country. So much of its culture is influenced by outsiders and as a result, it's a mesh of other cultures in one place. I also recently watched a video on Guyana about how it's becoming one of the global leaders in oil discoveries. I wonder how that will impact the future of Guyanese immigration. Resources I can use are the Newest New Yorkers and 18 Ethnic Micro Neighborhoods in NYC. I can also use New York's Guyana Consulate website and the nycgo website to find articles about neighborhoods influenced by Guyanese culture.
