I would like to find out the relation between the way college students study and their grades. My manipulated variables would be the amount of hours studied and I would compare the test results to conclude my research study.
My research question would be a correlation design. Research method by: naturalistic observation and case studies. I would let students record their natural study habits, splitting them into two categories: crammers and those who study regularly. (Regularly, but not necessarily long hours.) I would then compare their test results as a way to see if a specific way of studying results in higher grades. I would also do a case study on kids with especially low/high grades to see if any other factors may have influenced the results.
Hypothesis: I believe that students who study by pulling an all-nighter will perform better on tests overall. I think those who study all the information at once will have a better memory of all the topics covered in class. Those who study a few hours a day may not remember the topics covered from a few days before.
This test would benefit students because they can then study in a manner that will produce better results. A challenge to this experiment would be to consider the overall variation of intelligence levels in students and any other issues on the day that might affect their test taking.
