Meditation

II. Before you begin your meditation, we ask you assess and take notes on your own state of mind during the 24 hour period leading up to the meditation.

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.
During the past 24 hour period, I felt anxious and overwhelmed.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.
I would rate my anxiety level a 7.

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.
I felt tensed on my shoulders, back and jaw from slouching and clenching my teeth. I would have a physical tension rating of 7.

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.
A. Reassess your mood on the chart.
I experienced some frustration but was much more relaxed than I had been before the meditation.

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.
I would rate my anxiety level with a 3.

C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.
My physical tension would be a rating of 3

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?
I chose ‘Intro Guided Meditation’ by Ajahn Sundara. I was a bit annoyed with how long it was simply because I can’t sit still for more than ten minutes and she gave too many instructions. I think about one thing, then she mentions that we will think about another event and that was quite frustrating because I felt as if she had interrupted my thoughts. Her accent was a bit frustrating too because when I didn’t understand a word, I’d block out her instructions to think about what that word was, then I’d miss half of her instructions. I also noticed how tense my shoulders were and I lost feeling on my feet and legs at time forcing me to fidget around. I would try meditating again but I’d like to do it for probably 5-10 minutes and I’d do it without instructions like this meditation guide.

Hello there

Hello there! I’m Lily and currently a lower sophomore. I plan to double major in Corporate Communications and Philosophy. Probably will double minor but I have yet to decide what else I’d like to study.

I work at the Weissman Center for International Business. It’s the tiny building right in between the Welcome Center and the Newman Library. The center offers help with domestic internships, work abroad and study abroad. I work with the domestic internships side formally called the Internship Placement Program and the program basically helps you find internships based on your interests and majors (it’s kind of like STARR but we email you directly instead-and it’s free). And no you do not have to be part of Weissman nor do you have to major in International Business.

I used to write a lot of poetry and some short stories but lately I have not had the time to do so. I’m a super amateur photographer. And I’m not good at any sport. But I do enjoy ping pong and some volleyball.

"I also agree that turning to family first would be best because they've known you longer than any friend has. Realistically I too would choose only the happy memories. Aside from looking through photo albums and visiting places, you could probably try participating in activities you've done in the past (ie: family dinners like the one's you had during Thanksgiving or playing a sport with old teammates or friens)."

"I'm glad you chose to turn to your family first rather than your friends because I personally always placed my family first. And I believe it'll be easier accepting family when they'd have pictures and videos of your younger self as proof that you can trust them. With that being said, your reflection is very realistic. Although I personally would skip some of the embarassing memories, you brought up a valid point about 'missing a big part' of you."

"I don't think that you'd necessarily turn to your friends when you first start to recover only because you probably wouldn't know who they are or you wouldn't trust them. Turning to your family however is a different case because I'm sure they'd have more pictures and videos of you as you grew older."

"I personally would not choose to recover all of my memories because I'm sure there are uneccessary things that we do not need to remember (specifically grudges). I think forgetting some can also make you a stronger person."

"I think students who are dating and students who are married don't do as well as the students who are single simply because they have other responsibilities/duties as a boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife. If this experiment was to be conducted, the students participating in the experiment should probably take the same classes, since every professor give different amounts of work. They should also be around the same age since more students around their age group have similar priorities (ie: if you were in your late 30's you'd probably have work after classes and that could affect your grades)"

"I think this would be an interesting experiment if conducted The only things that could affect the results would be the amount of work load students receive because every professor gives different amounts of work. Some do in fact give no homework/tests- and because of that we may get more sleep, but we'd probably no nothing about the subject"

"I believe that your results may be affected by the students tested because each student has his/her own intelligence level (and some may be better at certain subjects than others). Let's say the individual who studies by him/her self is a super genius. That can affect the entire experiment. To perform this experiment, I think you'll have to find students who've studied the same things and know the same things. (but of course, I understand that this would most likely be impossible)"

"I too think that the monthly metrocard would be best especially for those who travel multiple times a day (ie: for class and work) If you choose to observe others instead of recording your own usage, you can simply do this a few times a week during different hours and come up with a rough estimate rather than doing this for a whole month (since people usually travel the same amount every day during the weekdays)."

"Hey guys. Sorry for the super late reply. By the way I always end my short stories by killing a character simply because I have trouble writing decent endings as well :( And if anyone's still interested in joining the internship placement program, you can google the 'Weissman center for international business' for more info - sorry I forgot our exact website. You can also find out more info or sign up for our program by calling 646 312 2070 or do a walk-in. It's located right in between the library and the welcome center. It's somewhat of a skinny building. And were located on the 8th floor. The program finds internships for a variety of majors and coincidentally most of them are for accounting majors since most of Baruch is either accounting or finance. Hope this helps :)"

"I went to Montauk for the first time last weekend and saw a bunch of people (even kids) surfing. It's pretty cool because you're not really on the typical New York beach- it's either the Long Island Sound or the actual Atlantic Ocean. Going to Montauk is basically the first time I've 'traveled' outside of New York City so I was just really impressed with all the surfers I saw. You should probably check it out sometime. I even saw some guy kite-sailing."

":( I wanted to rush for dsp too but missed all of their GIM's. I'm a freshman seminar peer mentor and my kids have to volunteer for one of their assignments. Although it'll be a short term - one day event, if you'd like maybe we can set something up for my class whether it's fundraising or volunteering at the American Cancer Society. However, I can not guarantee anything since I'd need the consent of the entire class but please do keep us in mind!"
