Research Reflection: Workouts, Stress and GPA

What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design?
– Would regular workouts reduce college related stress and help increase a students GPA?
What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate?
– I am looking to observe whether or not regular workouts can affect, r increase, a students GPA.
What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc)
– I would use experiemental, however correlational can work as well.
What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.)
– Survey can suffice with this experiement, however experimenting and using naturalistic observations can help further aid in producing detailing results.
If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables?
–  Although it is not completely necessary in this experiment, the independent can be the GPA and dependent can be amount of workouts.
Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find.
– I hypothesize that frequent workouts would infact help relieve stress and keep one healthy.  Therefore, a students GPA would be increased.
What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?
– Students who have collegiate stress can benefit.  If my hypothesis is correct, then working out can be an alternative to other tasks of stress relief and thus would increase GPA.
Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How?
– Some challenges that were faced are that it would be difficult to accumilate a large amount of people for the study.  Also, students in this study might cut out time for studying to perform these workouts.  This experiemnts would be slightly more difficult than i expected as i mentioned some reasons before.  In addition, my initial question addresses more than one question which can be split into two separate experiments.

Hello.  My name is Obaid….pronounced Oh-bad.  I am a sophomore at Baruch.  Psychology is not my intended major, although it is very interesting.  One of my favorite classes at Baruch has been ENG 2100 with Professor Riley.  He’s a great professor and made English very interesting for me and English is my worst subject.  I don’t belong to any club or organization here at Baruch however i am part of the Hunter College B-boy club.  I joined that club because some of my close friends started that club and Hunter is about 10-15 min away so its not that bad.  Some of my hobbies include playing sports like basketball, B-boying, playing pool, and just having a good time with friends.

"Hey Ivana. Photography is a great hobby. A lot of people are into it nowadays. That picture on your blog with the skittles was very interesting and creative. I liked it a lot. I also agree that college life hasn't really been widely different from high school....i guess that's cause Baruch is a commuting school. Nevertheless its a nice environment here :) Hope you have the great college experience you want in the years to come."
