Research Reflection: Sleep and Stress

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design? How does sleep correlate to stress?
  • What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate? the amount of time spent sleeping every night and the levels of stress experienced throughout the day
  • What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc) experimental
  • What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.) Naturalistic observation
  • If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables? independent variable: hours of sleep. dependent variable: stress level
  • Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find. as the amount of hours gets closer to the recommended amount of sleep, there will be a decrease in stress experienced throughout the day.
  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it? people who live routine lives that would like to decrease stress levels
  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How? the challenges that come up are the fact that people who have different jobs experience different stress levels, therefore this experiment may have to restricted to one certain profession. this was more difficult than expected because stress is hard to measure and what may be stressful for one person, may not be for someone else.

Hello

Hello everyone! My name is Luke Chang and I am a sophomore here at Baruch. My major is Management of Musical Enterprise. Music is my passion and as much as I love playing music, i feel that i can do even more by going into the music industry.

I was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania which is like amish central so i’ve had my share of horse buggys and cows. I grew up, however,  in Queens because i moved here when i was 5. I have 4 turtles and i over feed them because i want them to be GIANT. that is all 🙂

"1. If something like that happened, you can try to find out who you once were, but in one way or another, you will never be the same person you were before the accident. memories, personalities, and mannerisms are huge factors in the composition of who a person is. and losing your memory is such a large fraction of who you are. you are essentially losing what you have learned from past experiences, time shared with those you love, and many more aspects of life that can not be regain through talking to loved ones or looking at old pictures. however, one way to move on is to remember that you are now creating new memories which will slowly shape the person you will become in the future."
