Breakfast: The most important meal of the day? Lets find out.

I’ve always loved breakfast but sometimes I don’t really know if it should really be considered the “most important meal of the day.” I want to know if having breakfast or correlates with the attention span a student has throughout the day until the next time he/she consumes food. The variables that I would be looking to observe and manipulate would be breakfast and a person’s attention span. The independent variable would be breakfast and the dependent variable would be the attention span of a student. I believe that the correlation design would best suit my research question because I want to see if there is any correlation between those two variables. To conduct my experiment I would do a lab experiment with a placebo to see the effects of breakfast on a student’s attention span in class. My hypothesis would be that the students attention span in class will increase with breakfast and decrease without breakfast. The benefits of this study would be for students and their grades because; if you know that breakfast affects your attention in class then you would eat breakfast so that you can be focused in class. The process had of designing this experiment wasn’t as hard or as easy as I expected it to be because, there were so many things that you had to take into consideration. There weren’t really any challenges but if I had to name one it would be choosing the topic.

Hello :)

Hello 🙂 My name is Elaine Choo.  I’m a freshman at Baruch, and this is my first semester. I’m enjoying it so far although I don’t really have the slightest clue as to what my intended major is. What can I say besides the fact that I’m more than meets the eye? I’m ABCM. (American born Chinese Malaysian) I’m tiny but don’t let that fool you 🙂 Unlike many of my friends and people I know I actually enjoy going to school and psychology so far is my favorite class . But I love to play volleyball & I was on the volleyball team at my high school- Baruch College Campus High school. I love watching Teen Wolf, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Yes i know the typical girl but I also like playing video games although i’m not that good 🙂 Call of Duty or Capcom vs. Marvel three anyone?! But yeah besides all of this I’m the typical girl I grew up in Brooklyn but i spend most of my time in Manhattan go figure. Anyways 🙂 this is me I hope I didn’t bore any of you. Oh yeah I like to eat 🙂

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? I think that when Nina was meditating her physiological level was decreasing because she was beginning to relax and that is apparent since she felt drowsy afterwards and decided to take a nap. The decrease in her tension led to her physiological levels to decrease. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? There would be an increase in her left frontal cortex. Also activity in her sympathetic system would decrease while her parasympathetic nervous system will increase in activity which is controlled by her relaxation from her meditation. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Was it hard to control your breathing while meditating especially since you were so tense. 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I would be open to try the same meditation exercise because i normally have high tension and anxiety. i think this would be a good way to decrease those levels and help me relax and improve my physiological state."

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I agree with the author of this Reflection in terms of the memories they decided to keep and to discard. I liked that the author chose to go back to the places that shaped who he/she is; it’s what I would do. In addition, the author makes a good point that there is no point to avoiding the negative experiences because, if you avoid those experiences then it doesn’t matter what you remember after retrograde amnesia, you wouldn’t be the same person you were before. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? If I was the authors longtime friend, and she/he didn’t remember me then I would feel really upset and determined to make he/she remember who I am and our whole friendship; even the good and the bad. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? The role that I would play to help them reconstruct their memory would be their guide perhaps. I would take him/her to where they grew up, where they grew up knowing- places that they’ve been to that they may have a significant memory of, do all the things that he/she used to do. I would want to play the role of the supporting friend and the person who helps them reconstruct their memory. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? Based on what I learned in class and throughout my readings I would use visuals such as home videos or photographs of him/her and their life before amnesia. Seeing something that you’ve seen before can generate a memory and the person could make connections and help them remember more stuff."

"Hi Tedd :) Nice to meet you. It's so cool that you play the piano! I've always wanted to learn. I think it's cool that you're a vegan, doesn't it get tough though?"
